0:30

I think Zane's team hero, but Zane is more like,

0:33

he's hero side characters, so like, you're like,

0:35

Moushu in,

0:36

lawn,

0:38

or like, the Camurian in tangled,

0:40

like, you're not the main character,

0:42

but you're like the funny guy,

0:43

you're like, Donkey and Shrek,

0:44

like, that is you.

0:45

You're like, you're the wrong,

0:46

wrong,

0:47

he's the Donkey and Shrek is so good.

0:54

Donkey and Shrek is amazing.

0:55

Wow.

0:56

What are you, Nico?

0:57

What do you have any, what are you?

1:00

I'm, I'm, I'm team villain.

1:01

I'm, I want to be Shrek.

1:03

I'm Shrek.

1:14

Welcome everyone to another episode of The Pickle POD.

1:18

This week, we got a packed episode.

1:19

We got Zane, MLP Chicago.

1:22

Zane, take it one for the team,

1:24

sitting on the bench with his bucket hat.

1:26

He's here doing the exact same thing

1:28

for the next 90 minutes bucket hat,

1:31

ass on the bench.

1:32

It's going to be a great episode.

1:33

I got to play hybrid pickleball.

1:36

For those you don't know,

1:37

wheelchair pickleball,

1:38

which is probably what I need to be doing anyway.

1:40

But we got a ton of things to talk about.

1:42

We got Federico Staxtrude on The POD.

1:45

We're going to talk about his tray.

1:47

We're going to talk about whether or not

1:49

the fives or the shock are the team to beat,

1:51

or is there a dark horse?

1:53

Maybe it's Dallas.

1:54

I don't know.

1:55

There's a ton going on.

1:56

But guys, if you have already made it this far

1:59

and you plan on listening to the next 90 minutes,

2:01

do us a favor, hit all the buttons.

2:03

Whether you're on your phone or on the computer,

2:06

on YouTube, on Spotify, hit subscribe,

2:08

like, comment, thumbs up,

2:10

whatever it is, as long as it's not thumbs down,

2:13

we want to see it.

2:14

And if you want all the information

2:16

from the dink,

2:18

head over to subscribe.

2:20

The dinkpickleball.com,

2:22

subscribe to the newsletter.

2:23

You're going to like more of what you got there.

2:24

Zane, where do we start?

2:28

Yeah, well, the newsletter is where I get a ton

2:30

of my information as well.

2:32

Alex Weaver and I are partnering up to do a deeper dive

2:36

into the recent proton fraud allegations,

2:39

which are crazy,

2:40

and which we'll have to dive into a little bit

2:43

in the show as well.

2:44

But Alex goes in depth and the newsletter

2:48

really is legit.

2:49

Great way of staying up to date

2:50

with everything going on in Propagol.

2:52

So check that one out.

2:54

And I don't know,

2:55

where do you want to start, Nico?

2:56

Zane, before I do want to give the dink

3:00

a quick victory lap,

3:01

people might be throwing up in the back of their mouth.

3:03

But you mentioned the dink newsletter,

3:05

Alex Weaver.

3:06

There is, for those of you who don't know,

3:08

and those of you who are not on Pickleball Twitter,

3:10

there is like a media personality pick-um-league

3:13

for Major League Pickleball.

3:15

It is the most prestigious thing

3:17

and maybe all of Pickleball.

3:18

You have Alex Weaver, Thomas Shields,

3:20

myself, Eric Tyson,

3:22

all representing the dink.

3:23

You got Chris Calli, sorry,

3:25

not sorry.

3:25

You got Alex Lans from the kitchen.

3:27

You have the NML guys.

3:30

You have Hannah Johns.

3:30

There's a ton of different people

3:32

all vying for supremacy.

3:34

No, don't disrespect Hayshay like that.

3:37

Include Hayshay in their team.

3:38

Hayshay, Hayshay as well.

3:40

Johnny 5.0,

3:42

Maddie Pickles.

3:43

There's a ton.

3:44

You can disrespect those guys.

3:45

That's fine.

3:46

Just don't disrespect Hayshay.

3:48

So anyway,

3:49

we're almost at the end of the season.

3:50

Believe it or not,

3:51

speaking of no disrespect,

3:52

Jim Klaus,

3:54

the prior season champion,

3:56

smartest guy in Pickleball.

3:57

But this year,

3:58

the dink has the number one spot,

4:01

the tied for number one spot,

4:03

the number three spot.

4:06

And if Eric Tyson didn't have to abstain

4:08

from some things and always pick

4:10

the Chicago Black Bears,

4:11

he'd probably be number one overall.

4:13

So dink representing,

4:14

I'm not sure those other guys may be

4:16

in second to last.

4:17

I'm not sure who those other guys are,

4:18

but they may or may not get offended

4:20

if we talk about them or their podcasts,

4:22

but victory lap for the dink so far.

4:25

Victory lap for the dink.

4:26

Love it.

4:26

I don't get anything else to say.

4:28

Good stuff.

4:29

That's fine.

4:30

Don't disrespect Hayshay.

4:32

Never, never.

4:33

She is the person when,

4:34

like when she hits,

4:35

nobody else hits.

4:37

She is the pick with your hard type of person,

4:41

which is fantastic,

4:42

which has worked really well for her,

4:44

you know, a notorious Dallas Flash superfan.

4:48

And they've been doing great for the last two weeks.

4:50

Nobody else picked them like

4:52

to do as well as she has.

4:54

So maybe why don't we start?

4:55

We want to start with the Dallas Flash

4:57

in an MLP Chicago.

5:00

Sure.

5:00

Well, let's run it.

5:02

Dallas Flash overhyped.

5:05

I hate to say it.

5:05

They've beaten hardly anybody over the last two weeks.

5:09

Now Columbus, very good win.

5:12

So I'll take that statement back immediately.

5:14

They beat Columbus.

5:16

The Columbus is really like their,

5:18

that's their best,

5:18

that's their signature win.

5:20

They beat their Brooklyn team

5:22

without, without Rachel in women's doubles.

5:25

They don't beat that Brooklyn team

5:27

if Rachel is in women's doubles.

5:29

It is surprising to me that,

5:31

that they won that Dreambreaker still

5:34

and in extremely convincing fashion.

5:37

But they played the two weakest events

5:39

of the year by a country mile.

5:42

And they won them,

5:44

which I'm not like,

5:46

that's a good accomplishment to win these, right?

5:47

Beating Columbus is great.

5:49

Beating Brooklyn is great.

5:50

But like, the fact that it was Dallas versus Brooklyn

5:53

in a, in a week final,

5:55

like that's a, that's a week final.

5:58

I guess, you know,

5:59

to me, I still think they are one of three teams

6:02

that have won two or more MLP events this year.

6:06

They're one of, I think, four teams total

6:07

that have won an event.

6:09

I don't think the Brooklyn Pickleball team

6:12

or the Columbus Sliders have won one.

6:15

So you play who they put in front of you

6:18

and they're beaten them left and right

6:20

in convincing fashion.

6:22

As you mentioned,

6:23

JW Johnson going like seven and one against Chris Hayworth

6:27

insane, overhyped maybe.

6:31

But I still think now there's a top two

6:34

and there might actually just be a second tier of four.

6:37

I might put the Dallas Flash in there,

6:39

but they got to be in the conversation

6:41

with the Columbus Sliders and the LA Mad Drops

6:44

after beating them and back to back weeks, right?

6:47

Yeah, I'd put them in that like that second tier now.

6:49

They've gone from third tier to second tier, definitely.

6:51

So they're in that grouping of Brooklyn.

6:55

I probably would still put Columbus somewhere between.

6:59

Yeah, you got the shock in the fives.

7:00

I'd put Columbus kind of in between as a third team.

7:04

And then you got Brooklyn, LA, Dallas,

7:07

kind of in that next tier.

7:09

St. Louis, sorry, after that comes like Palm Beach and Texas.

7:14

And then there's kind of the rest of the teams

7:16

that are looking for playoffs spots after that.

7:19

So they're good.

7:21

They are good.

7:22

They're better than a lot of people expected.

7:25

I don't think they're winning a championship, that's for sure.

7:28

I don't think they are either,

7:29

but I think they're at least have odds for a championship child.

7:33

They could at least upset somebody.

7:37

And at minimum, can be one of the three or four or five

7:41

seeded teams, which I don't think anybody thought could happen.

7:43

I think everybody started the season of there's a top five

7:46

and everybody else, Dallas, left for dead,

7:50

Mark Moulton, owner, GM of the Dallas Flash.

7:54

Is there an argument for him to now actually be GM of the year?

7:58

No.

7:58

I mean, best trade all season.

8:02

Maybe the best pick up off of, I don't know, I guess it was a trade,

8:06

Alex Strong, you know, buddies with Danny Townsend,

8:09

those two moves fantastic.

8:11

If you would have told me, hey, this person,

8:13

you're going to lose your top two women and still win two events,

8:17

which is probably if they kept their exact team from last year,

8:21

I don't even think the odds would be that they would win two events this year.

8:24

So...

8:26

Interesting.

8:26

I don't, I mean, that team from last year crushes these two events,

8:31

the same two events.

8:32

So, I mean, you can kind of thank the schedule for some of that,

8:35

some of that win.

8:36

Now they made some, they've made good moves.

8:38

I like where, where Dallas is at for sure,

8:40

and they're, they're jelling pretty well.

8:42

But like, I don't know, I guess,

8:45

they might be somewhat slim picking for GM of the year.

8:50

So, I don't know, I don't even know how you would,

8:53

how you judge something like that.

8:54

Like, what do you put Harwood in there for going and getting all these pieces?

8:59

Like, you know, how do you, how do you even judge,

9:02

do you put Johnny Goldberg in there for probably making half a meal with his roster?

9:06

Like...

9:06

I was going to say Johnny Goldberg probably the person.

9:09

Honestly, Mark might be the guy because if you think about this,

9:14

we now can revision his history, his decision to drop Georgia.

9:17

Is that still the right decision?

9:20

Who should he have dropped?

9:21

Because after, if you've been watching MLP the last two weeks,

9:24

JW Johnson is the best player on planet Earth.

9:27

Like, no doubt.

9:29

He's moving.

9:30

He hasn't moved around so much in mixed doubles for a while.

9:33

Playing with Georgia, they kind of got that, you know, sort of their style down.

9:37

But he's playing big with Brooke now.

9:41

Playing great.

9:42

Yeah, so it was good for him.

9:43

Maybe it's his new pickle paddle.

9:45

Who's to say, honestly?

9:48

Could be pickle paddle slash paddle tech paddle.

9:50

I don't know.

9:50

And in that, in that finals with Dallas and Brooklyn,

9:54

I think the biggest shocker to me was the absolute beat down

9:59

that they put in the second spot in mixed doubles.

10:03

I saw...

10:03

Actually, the biggest surprise was Chris Hayward.

10:05

Let's talk about that in a second here.

10:07

But do you watch Augie and Danny play in that finals?

10:11

I thought they were unstoppable.

10:13

I didn't know what they could do.

10:15

Riley Newman looked completely lost,

10:17

so did Jackie Calimodo.

10:20

Like, I just...

10:20

I thought Jackie and Riley would be significantly favorite in that match.

10:24

And it just looked like they had nothing.

10:27

Anything fast came back even faster, relentless attacks.

10:31

Like, it looked like they could never beat that team.

10:33

Like, there was no chance.

10:36

Yeah, I'm not going to lie.

10:37

I was not able to watch much this weekend.

10:39

I was able to sneak some views of the slice.

10:42

Got to watch most of their matches.

10:45

But that is...

10:47

That's about it, unfortunately.

10:48

So, didn't see that.

10:50

Saw the end result.

10:51

Did watch the Dreambreaker beat down.

10:53

And that's the most surprising part for me.

10:55

Like, I figured Augie and Danny would mesh really well together

10:59

because Augie obviously plays the right side.

11:01

And Danny loves playing the left.

11:03

And there's not too many ladies that want to play the left in mixed doubles.

11:07

But I tuned in for that Dreambreaker.

11:09

And I couldn't believe that the Smackdown that Jada put on Chris.

11:16

And I think Augie is an underrated single-splayer,

11:20

particularly for four points at a time.

11:22

And he's clutching a Dreambreaker.

11:23

So, four-four with Alshon doesn't particularly surprise me.

11:27

But 7-1 for Jada does.

11:31

Yeah.

11:32

And it brought good.

11:33

Yeah, I mean, 12 to 5,

11:36

the men of the Flash beating the men of the Brooklyn Pickleball team.

11:41

And that is by far the best men's Dreambreaker line-ups.

11:46

So it makes me wonder, like, is Dreambreaker power overrated?

11:50

Like, as long as you don't have an absolute liability,

11:53

does it actually matter?

11:54

Like, did the shock actually do that much by getting Hunter Johnson?

11:59

Like, it's only eight points.

12:01

You know what I'm saying?

12:02

So, and JW had control of pretty much all of those points.

12:05

It was interesting to watch.

12:06

Like, you never saw Chris really get in.

12:08

JW great passing shots.

12:10

But I don't know.

12:12

I mean, to me, it just screams Brooklyn Pickleball team is in trouble.

12:18

Like, maybe they're not-

12:20

They are not we thought they were.

12:21

They aren't who they thought we were.

12:24

Oh god.

12:24

How do you still screw this up?

12:25

I just said it for you.

12:26

You had the other version done.

12:28

And I just said it again.

12:30

You messed it up.

12:31

I have the Yips.

12:32

It's like a Yips on the specific sentence.

12:34

Like, some you can, you know,

12:34

Connigger and Ed can't serve occasionally.

12:36

I can't say this specific meme.

12:39

But-

12:40

And I can't get Zoe Wiles last name done.

12:42

Yeah.

12:42

You did it this time.

12:44

But I-

12:45

My thought is one, maybe Riley and Jack here overrated as a mixed two team.

12:50

And two, if they don't have a stranglehold on Dreambreakers,

12:53

they're in huge trouble.

12:54

And I think my thought is, even with Rachel Roerbacher,

12:59

that team is not that much better at Dreambreakers.

13:01

Right?

13:02

Like, they rely so heavily on getting a huge lead with their men.

13:05

And the men's field is so tight that I don't actually

13:08

think it's that big of an issue.

13:09

I think-

13:10

I-

13:10

That-

13:10

That big of a-

13:11

Of a plus for them.

13:12

I think it's way better to have top tier women

13:15

in your Dreambreaker lineup than it is to have the men.

13:18

Even though the men obviously play more points.

13:22

Yeah.

13:22

No, I-

13:22

I would agree with that.

13:23

I just think that the-

13:24

That the difference between the top men and the bottom men in-

13:30

In Dreambreakers is a lot to-

13:32

Closer than the top women to the bottom women.

13:36

Right?

13:37

So, you know, you're-

13:38

You're maybe looking for a five-three advantage

13:42

out of each of your men's team.

13:44

But like, maybe the-

13:45

Maybe a six-two or something from-

13:47

From the women.

13:48

And so, yeah, I mean, like, I think Rachel coming back into singles

13:51

at some point for Hannah Blatt.

13:53

You know, maybe that goes from a three-five spread on average

13:58

to a five-three spread on average,

13:59

which is, you know, which is big.

14:02

But, uh, yeah, even having the best men's players

14:06

in the world, like, you know, that's-

14:09

That's maybe giving you one one extra point per rotation,

14:12

which is huge, but it's not everything, right?

14:15

So, yeah, I mean, I think they get a little bit better

14:18

when Rachel comes back to singles.

14:20

But, uh,

14:22

And there is some randomness, too.

14:24

Like, I just don't-

14:25

I do think that JW is a good matchup against Chris Hayworth,

14:28

but I don't see-

14:29

I don't see Dallas winning that super regularly.

14:34

Yeah, I don't think so either.

14:36

I still think Dallas has the vibes, you know,

14:38

the-

14:39

Yeah.

14:40

Brooklyn has, you know,

14:42

Riley Hittin, the paddle out of Christian Aushon's hand,

14:44

with probably like the clip of the tournament,

14:48

and just Aushon just like-

14:50

Just kind of shaking his head, looking-

14:52

Looking frustrated, confused, I'm not sure,

14:54

but, uh, I was ready for Aushon to then kick him in the head,

14:58

like that video from two years ago,

15:01

where they slapped paddles at the net.

15:03

Maybe that moment was the-

15:05

The turning point, uh, in their-

15:07

in their event, to which caused them to-

15:09

to lose, but, I don't know, Brooklyn, that-

15:11

I'm still, you know, proud of them for-

15:13

for making it to the finals.

15:15

The team is cursed, you know,

15:16

we've had conversations on the side,

15:18

through text and DMs, like,

15:19

is it Jay Gelvar, superfan?

15:21

Is he the curse?

15:22

I'm not sure what it is,

15:23

but they can't catch a break.

15:26

Scooter injuries,

15:27

sickness, injury-

15:28

regular injuries, uh,

15:31

scoreboard injuries.

15:32

Sporting on you, yeah.

15:33

So, I don't know, we'll see what happens,

15:34

but they-

15:35

they need maybe, like, a rain dance or something.

15:38

Yeah, no, it's weird.

15:39

I mean, they played-

15:40

they played a bunch of different lineups they had.

15:42

Rohrbacher was out of women's the entire time,

15:45

but in-

15:46

mixed the entire time,

15:48

Riley was in and out of mixed doubles.

15:50

Hayworth was in for him a couple times in mixed.

15:54

Aushon, I think, was out for one in mixed,

15:56

maybe-

15:57

or maybe I'm wrong.

15:58

Like-

15:59

You switched it up, like, a ton,

16:01

which is a little strange, but-

16:04

Oh well.

16:04

All right, so Zane,

16:06

so just a second ago,

16:07

we're talking about GM of the year,

16:09

and, you know,

16:10

we don't give you enough credit for being GM of the year.

16:12

Maybe you're not the GM,

16:13

maybe you're actually a player

16:15

that probably has the highest salary on your entire team.

16:18

I don't know, or highest draft number,

16:20

but Zane,

16:21

I want to get your thoughts on,

16:24

you know, I think you played just a couple of games.

16:26

You ended up with your role from the-

16:31

New Jersey Fives,

16:32

you were on the bench.

16:33

Your team did great.

16:34

Zoe Wild called you out,

16:36

said that your team might be better with you on the bench.

16:38

I want to hear a little bit about that decision,

16:41

a little bit about the Chicago experience.

16:43

I think you guys-

16:43

you guys were doing a ton.

16:45

Aushon throughout the first pitch.

16:46

You guys played against them.

16:48

Megan Desan is trying to blast people in the face.

16:50

Anyway,

16:52

give me a little bit more of the Chicago slice recap.

16:56

Yeah, no, it was a sweet week in Chicago.

16:59

So we all got there on Monday.

17:02

We went to Grant Park,

17:03

downtown Chicago,

17:04

which was iconic.

17:05

They're skyscrapers in the background.

17:08

Sunset, the sky was all pink.

17:11

We're there.

17:12

And I have actually a crazy story.

17:14

So we were debating-

17:17

The rest of the team was going undercover.

17:19

LC was pretending to be a little sister.

17:23

Lou'd never played before.

17:24

Like Jamie was pretending to not speak English.

17:26

Like they were all going undercover

17:28

and we were like-

17:29

the people were recording it.

17:31

But we had made the decision,

17:32

you know, not to inflate my ego any more than it already is,

17:36

that I was probably too recognizable

17:38

to show up to the pickleball court for this event.

17:41

And so I got there while they're still doing their thing.

17:44

I met up with another

17:46

Paddle Tech employee and we were kind of waiting

17:49

like on the outskirts and

17:51

we were debating it, right?

17:53

We're like, am I too noticeable to go over there?

17:56

Like what I blow their cover right now?

17:58

And I swear to God,

18:01

as we are having this debate,

18:04

a guy with his pickleball paddle,

18:06

bikes past us,

18:08

does a double take,

18:09

helmet falls off,

18:11

goes onto the ground,

18:12

he hits his helmet with the bike

18:14

and kind of like stumbles off.

18:16

Doesn't like acknowledge that,

18:18

but just turns around and goes,

18:20

you're a naver, so

18:23

literally on cue as we're having the conversation,

18:26

I turned to Maddie and I'm like,

18:27

that answers that.

18:28

So anyway, that was some cool social content after that.

18:31

You know, we did a bunch of random stuff,

18:34

like we played instead of playing with a beer in one hand

18:39

because we got a bunch of 13, 15, 18 year olds.

18:42

We played with a pizza in one hand.

18:44

Again, that was fun.

18:46

Well, you know, I served up some chain sauce too.

18:49

And yeah, it was just a good time after that.

18:51

So that was Monday.

18:53

On Tuesday, we had the event outside of Rigglyfield,

18:58

where we set up a pickleball court

19:00

and we had the Chicago slice playing against the paddle tech

19:06

and pickle all stars,

19:08

which is pretty sweet because obviously,

19:10

paddle tech just picked up J.D.

19:12

up, Georgia, and Tyra to their team.

19:15

So pretty frickin stacked team over there.

19:18

They had camshaven, Riley Newman,

19:21

who couldn't play because of that scooter injury.

19:24

They had Christian, Georgia, Tyra, J.D. up.

19:29

So it was a really solid squad

19:32

from their end played against us.

19:34

I want a little bit of credit.

19:36

I started out hot.

19:37

I hit Christian Elshon with a nasty Nelson on point one.

19:41

So successful Nelson was an exhibition,

19:44

but you know, nasty nonetheless.

19:46

Let's see, after that, he got to go in

19:49

and throw the first pitch.

19:51

And if you saw any of this stuff on social media,

19:54

like I was not thinking that he was about to go throw a strike,

19:59

they just did not have good odds on that.

20:02

But he threw a frickin good pitch,

20:04

like he actually threw a strike.

20:06

So shout out Christian.

20:07

Hard work pays off strike in the first pitch.

20:11

That's impressive.

20:12

You know, to me, one is the nerves

20:15

have got to be through the roof,

20:16

trying to throw a first pitch strike, right?

20:18

And if you saw Christian,

20:20

he's doing we sports,

20:22

he's practicing everything.

20:24

Like there was like a basically like a rocky montage

20:27

of Christian trying to train for this.

20:29

You know, he took an entire tournament off.

20:31

He was dialed.

20:33

My question, those ain't is,

20:34

how did he get chosen to be the first pitch guy?

20:36

Did you did the paddle tech,

20:38

like look at the roster and say,

20:40

who is the only athlete here?

20:42

But this guy, we're going to pick him to throw it

20:44

or if it's a, we've had enough of Zane

20:46

trying to do cross-port stuff.

20:47

Like how did that happen?

20:50

I actually, I don't know.

20:51

I think probably because,

20:53

because Christian resigned with paddle tech

20:55

and, you know, he's kind of the,

20:58

I would say the face of paddle tech

21:00

before all the J-Dab, Georgia, and whatnot stuff.

21:04

So, yeah, I mean, I think he's the,

21:07

he's the probably most well-known

21:10

pickleballer of the group.

21:12

Or, yeah, so,

21:14

that would be, that'd be my guess.

21:15

Zane, I have a quick,

21:17

a quick detour from what is happening.

21:19

And maybe we do this in more detail later.

21:22

But is paddle tech,

21:25

if paddle tech was an MLP team,

21:27

does that team beat every other MLP team?

21:30

You know what, that's so funny.

21:31

We were, I was debating that because

21:33

the paddle tech team would be Christian,

21:35

J-Dab, Georgia, and Tyra,

21:39

with maybe Cam Shafen coming in for the Dreambreaker.

21:42

Like, better question is,

21:45

does that team beat the shock?

21:46

Because you can't really compare them to the fives,

21:48

because Georgia's on the fives, right?

21:51

Does that team beat the shock?

21:52

That's tough.

21:54

That is tough.

21:55

Hey, I don't know.

21:56

I don't think so.

21:58

It's close.

21:59

I don't think so.

21:59

But like, fascinating, right?

22:02

That's a good team.

22:03

But now, now, Zane, does that team

22:06

beat every other paddle brand's team?

22:08

If each paddle brand had an MLP team,

22:11

does that team, is that the best team?

22:14

I mean, I'd imagine it's probably second to Yola,

22:17

because you got Fed, Ben, and Abright,

22:20

and I don't know who would be their second woman for Yola.

22:23

I mean, you could keep Fahey if you wanted.

22:26

But then also, you got Franklin,

22:28

you got Paris and...

22:31

And Ali.

22:32

And Anneli.

22:33

Or Anneli.

22:35

I mean, that'd be pretty fascinating.

22:37

Those are definitely the big three.

22:39

Imagine the rivalry match between PaddleTech and Franklin.

22:42

Pretty electric.

22:44

You got both J.D.

22:45

and your workmates switching over.

22:47

You got Anneli switching over.

22:49

Like, that'd be a pretty good grudge match.

22:53

I think so too.

22:54

And I actually think that all three of those teams

22:56

are relatively even to where, like,

22:58

if there was a tournament,

22:59

there's not necessarily a clear favorite.

23:03

I mean, that'd be pretty sweet.

23:05

Yeah, that'd be sick.

23:06

I've said for a while,

23:08

I think it'd be super cool to do a MLP of Paddle Brands.

23:12

Like, get all of this Paddle Brands that sponsor MLP

23:17

or our UPA approved or whatever you want to do

23:20

to submit their lineups.

23:22

Like, how electric would that be?

23:25

I think it'd be awesome.

23:26

And then maybe you do what they did

23:28

in at Beer City Open and you have like an Indie brand All Stars.

23:33

You know, you take the onesy twosy,

23:36

like, whoever's playing with like a Luz or an RPM

23:40

or whatever and you form that Ragtag team as well.

23:42

But I love it.

23:44

I love it.

23:45

All right.

23:45

Well, leave us a comment.

23:47

Which team do you think wins the Paddle Brand Ball?

23:52

And which team is Sneaky Good, right?

23:55

Is there like an engaged team or a facelose team

23:58

or an RPM team or something that's Sneaky Good

24:02

with a couple of athletes that could make it happen?

24:04

So I like that debate.

24:06

That's that's a pretty interesting one.

24:08

All right.

24:08

We'll see if that's possible.

24:09

Well, in the Pro Pickball Talk Discord as well.

24:11

24:11

Remember to do that, Shit Nico.

24:14

I will.

24:14

I'm glad that last week you woke up at 3 AM

24:18

to put in a poll where you got absolutely stumped

24:21

in our last draft.

24:22

So I think I'm along like a three or four game win streak.

24:25

I don't know.

24:26

But hold on, hold on.

24:27

Even people pointed out that you cheated.

24:30

Jonathan Trong is in the top 20.

24:32

I win by technicality.

24:34

And I will take that.

24:35

I am not above that.

24:36

All right.

24:37

So let me ask you this.

24:38

In an MLP team, you cannot have three players in the top 20.

24:41

Correct?

24:42

The top 20 of their gender.

24:45

So I'm just following MLP rules.

24:47

No, no, no, no.

24:48

These are my rules.

24:50

That we said for this poll last week.

24:53

You said no, that's 20.

24:54

I assumed you meant what MLP also means when they say no

24:57

three top 20.

24:58

So I was only looking at men's.

25:00

You can get an asterisk for this one.

25:02

Just like I got an asterisk for that one

25:03

where I won like two out of three polls.

25:05

And you still gave yourself credit.

25:07

We got a lot of asterisk in these.

25:08

We, you know, luckily we really needed impartial third party

25:12

for this.

25:13

Oh, yeah.

25:13

Just to keep me out when I try to say that

25:15

Israel's part of Africa.

25:18

It's true.

25:18

It's true.

25:19

But yeah, I think we're basically even coming into the home

25:22

stretch of the year.

25:22

We got a couple more of these going.

25:24

So I don't know what somebody if there's a historian can

25:26

let us know like where we're at on the season.

25:29

I'd love that.

25:30

Propicable discord.

25:31

Please do the math.

25:32

Somebody figure out where we're at season standings.

25:34

Yeah, I'm winning.

25:37

But so dude, what I didn't realize was how big of a deal

25:40

talking to you know to go back to talking about me again.

25:43

Of course.

25:45

How big of a deal that actually doing the seventh

25:47

inning stretch is like I actually for some reason didn't realize

25:52

that that was like a somewhat uniquely

25:55

regley field tradition.

25:57

There are a bunch of others that do it.

25:59

But it's not nearly as big anywhere other than

26:02

regley.

26:02

So me and LC got to do that and

26:07

she was freaking out the entire day.

26:08

I only started freaking out right when we went up there

26:11

and saw 40,000 Cubs fans down there.

26:14

And there was like no sign.

26:15

What's what we're just like waiting there chilling third out

26:18

happens in the top of the seven.

26:20

We're like, all right.

26:22

Now what?

26:23

I'm like, go, go, go, go, go.

26:26

Okay.

26:27

But we did it.

26:29

We got it done.

26:30

And uh,

26:31

yeah, that was pretty freaking cool.

26:33

Funny story too.

26:34

LC throughout a signed hat to

26:38

you know, you throw out a signed hat after you sing the seventh

26:40

inning stretch.

26:41

The person who caught it was a was a friend of a friend.

26:45

And they texted me that they have the they have the signed

26:47

thing.

26:48

It's a pick-up player.

26:49

It's just like so random.

26:50

So that was pretty cool.

26:52

Pretty cool.

26:53

Pretty cool experience.

26:54

So the Chicago group did a ton

26:56

around the city.

26:57

We did some clinics as well.

26:59

Really, really cool home events.

27:00

And the facility and everything was sick.

27:02

I think that I mean, I was only there for a day.

27:06

But I feel like this is an eight plus event.

27:08

Yeah, but you were only there for a day.

27:11

Yeah, I didn't.

27:12

Are you talking about it?

27:13

You're talking about an MLP.

27:14

Are you talking about it?

27:15

I really.

27:16

I was only at MLP for Thursday.

27:19

We played Thursday.

27:20

I didn't know this.

27:21

We beat the bouncers.

27:23

And then I had to go after Thursday.

27:26

I had to go to Tennessee.

27:28

So my Jenny's, my wife's sister,

27:32

who was getting married to my college roommate.

27:35

And so I was the best man.

27:37

And Jenny was the matron of honor.

27:39

So we had to go, had to go do that.

27:42

But actually funny story about those two.

27:45

They met at the very first MLP event over in Dreamland.

27:49

So Matt and Stephanie were both living,

27:53

they were living in San Antonio and Colleen at that point.

27:56

And they both came to come watch that event.

27:59

And they both watched with my parents over there.

28:02

And they met in the beer line over at Dreamland

28:05

and have been together ever since.

28:08

And then tied the knot on Saturday.

28:10

So yeah, I'll

28:13

congrats to them and a little MLP love story.

28:17

Wow.

28:17

That's impressive.

28:18

Where did the extra thing I married in Tennessee?

28:19

What part of Tennessee were they?

28:21

They get rid of the middle of nowhere.

28:22

Kind of the tourist.

28:24

Where that is.

28:24

No, I know like basically Pigeon Forge,

28:27

Gowlandberg and all the other big cities.

28:29

It was like half an hour from Gowlandberg.

28:31

Oh, love that place.

28:32

I love Gowlandberg and Pigeon Forge.

28:35

Okay.

28:36

Cool.

28:36

So this kind of like ruined,

28:38

to be quiet on this day,

28:39

I probably am not the only one here.

28:41

Guys, if you're listening,

28:42

you can let me know in the comment section.

28:44

When the Chicago Slice come on,

28:46

I just pull up the match day app

28:47

and I just see what's happening.

28:49

Like this is my chance to like,

28:50

I go do dishes,

28:52

you know, clean up the house.

28:53

And so I was like,

28:54

oh, it's on the lineup again.

28:55

And again, I didn't even know you left.

28:56

So this,

28:57

maybe this is AJ Kohler's moment,

28:58

like this Tom Brady moment.

29:00

You, you left,

29:01

you know, unfortunate circumstance.

29:02

You're out.

29:03

Now he's there.

29:04

They're coming up,

29:06

you know, just win after win.

29:08

I guess you said you beat the Atlanta Bouncer.

29:10

So I guess your spot might probably save.

29:12

But you guys look,

29:13

you look good and you guys are like,

29:15

this close to the playoffs.

29:16

Are you guys,

29:17

where are you like 13th in the rankings right now?

29:20

No, well, so first off,

29:21

AJ played great.

29:22

John played great.

29:23

The ladies played great.

29:24

Emma Nelson,

29:26

in her first event,

29:27

fit right in with us.

29:28

So I couldn't be more excited for the,

29:31

for the squad.

29:32

Jamie stepped up in a really big way.

29:35

It in terms of like leadership for the team.

29:37

So I don't know.

29:39

I was like a,

29:40

a proud,

29:41

a proud dad.

29:41

I think Zoe Wild tweeted that out to

29:44

among some other very mean things that she said.

29:49

Joking, obviously.

29:51

But no, everybody stepped up.

29:52

It was awesome.

29:52

And so we got 12 points,

29:54

which actually puts us currently sitting

29:56

in the playoffs picture.

29:58

But there are a few other teams

29:59

that we're competing with like Miami,

30:02

Las Vegas,

30:03

Orlando,

30:04

and California.

30:06

So it is definitely going to come down to Orlando

30:08

for who can,

30:09

who can secure

30:11

the,

30:13

the most points there.

30:14

But as of right now,

30:15

we're one point ahead of a couple teams

30:17

sitting in 12th.

30:18

They have a better group for Orlando

30:21

than we do.

30:22

And several of them are in the same group.

30:24

So we've got some work to do in,

30:25

in Orlando this week.

30:26

But the squad is playing good ball.

30:29

Yeah, they're looking, they're looking great.

30:30

I, I roast you guys off after you guys made the trade.

30:32

And this is probably my fault.

30:33

But you guys made the trade.

30:35

You know,

30:37

no more hunter, no more Mari.

30:39

Mari's doing great immediately

30:41

on the Atlanta Bouncer's.

30:42

They've been playing pretty well.

30:43

And, and then you guys basically just got smoked

30:46

immediately after that.

30:47

So I wrote you guys off for dead.

30:48

Looked great this week.

30:50

Got one more week.

30:51

I'm rooting for you guys.

30:52

Believe it or not,

30:54

even though it would be more fun on the pod.

30:55

If you guys don't make it,

30:56

but I have a hard time rooting against,

30:58

you know, 13, 14, 15 year olds,

31:00

playing pro sports.

31:03

So I think you guys got America's heart.

31:06

And maybe that's what you were doing as well.

31:07

By drafted all these people or, or trading for them.

31:10

I think we're a fun team to watch for.

31:12

I mean, like how can you,

31:13

how can you cheer against LC or, or Emma?

31:16

Like Jamie is an icon.

31:19

Looch is playing really good ball.

31:22

Like, and AJ, just the veteran out there crushing it this,

31:26

this week, the, the, the calm Uncle AJ vet.

31:30

Like I think we're a fun team to,

31:32

fun team to watch.

31:32

And it's definitely a fun team to be a part of.

31:34

These, I mean, the kids are getting better,

31:37

minute by minute.

31:38

Like they show up literally better the next day.

31:41

It's crazy how fast they're getting good.

31:43

So.

31:44

Oh, yeah.

31:44

I'm excited to see what happens next year

31:46

in the year after that.

31:47

So like how fast can they get good?

31:49

This happens in records everywhere where you like see this 13 year

31:52

role that has some kind of athletic ability and you play as, you know,

31:55

like, oh, you're like a three five.

31:56

And like you, you show up like four weeks later, he's a four five.

31:59

And then two weeks after that, he's a five oh, like that.

32:02

That it's incredible how fast they go.

32:04

So, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if your team is, you know,

32:07

in that second tier next year,

32:09

if everybody progresses the way they are.

32:11

I mean, I think Looch is, is actually.

32:15

Has gotten so much better.

32:16

It doesn't get as much credit as anybody else.

32:19

Of the, you know, the younger group because he's already one,

32:21

two golds and singles.

32:23

And people think about him in singles.

32:24

But I was at pickle con last week.

32:27

And I was talking to Ryan Moore know from pickle ball breakdowns.

32:30

And he was like, I'm going to do a piece right now on,

32:32

on John Lucian Williams because he's the most underrated guy in all pickle ball.

32:36

So shout out to him now.

32:39

Yeah, I mean, we didn't pick up John to be our,

32:41

our dream breaker, dude.

32:43

Now, like, I think John is is proving

32:46

immediately how good he is at doubles.

32:48

He's never really had that like shot.

32:50

Right?

32:51

And so he's also taking that opportunity

32:55

immediately.

32:55

And like, he's fired up to, to play.

32:57

Like, he's fired up to be in the lineup.

32:59

Like, we got a team of people that want the ball,

33:01

which is, which is good, especially for youngsters.

33:04

So.

33:05

Yeah, that's important.

33:06

So I think the one thing that youngsters sometimes have to look out for

33:09

is bullying.

33:10

And I want to ask you about what happened with the Megan Dishonblue card.

33:13

Was there a like, I only saw a highlight from this.

33:16

But I remember she, she got blasted kind of like,

33:19

upper shoulder face and then just took the ball and whacked it.

33:23

And I'm sure did it hit Emma Nelson?

33:25

Did it not hit her?

33:26

Like, was it an accident?

33:28

Is there any more to this story?

33:30

What, what happened?

33:32

Yeah, honestly, I wasn't there.

33:34

I don't know anything other than what we all saw online.

33:37

And to be like, first off,

33:39

like, I'm sure Megan would acknowledge this.

33:41

I think it was a huge and inappropriate overreaction from her.

33:45

Like Emma's speed up was, it wasn't even like a bag attempt.

33:49

Like, it was pretty slow.

33:51

And it looked like Megan kind of just dodged the wrong way and then got caught.

33:55

Like, it's possible that that ball was going in.

33:58

Like, yeah.

34:00

So huge overreaction.

34:03

Like, I'm sure she would acknowledge that too.

34:06

And you know, I think she made a comment like, yeah, it's not my finest moment.

34:09

Like, I'm sorry.

34:10

Good for her, right?

34:12

And I also feel like she got a little bit hosed because she

34:15

smacks the ball back.

34:15

She shouldn't have done that.

34:17

Like, I think the camera angle that we all saw the clip from

34:21

makes it look way worse than it is because you can't really see

34:26

how far away the ball is from Emma.

34:29

Like, she turns and she hits it.

34:31

Emma's general direction, but I don't think she hit it at Emma.

34:34

Like, I think she hit it.

34:35

I mean, it looks to me, if you really look at it, it looks to me like,

34:38

it's 10, 12, 15 feet away.

34:40

Like, I don't think it was hit at Emma.

34:43

General direction, but I don't think it was hit at Emma.

34:45

Interesting context, though.

34:46

Oh, Jamie and Emma were up 9-2.

34:50

Caitlin, I'm sorry, Caitlin and Megan brought it all the way back to 7-9.

34:55

I think that shot was at 9-7-2 for the slice.

35:00

So hitting her puts that at 10-7.

35:03

Blue card puts it at 11-7.

35:06

So pretty crucial part of the match, too.

35:10

But yeah, I mean, I don't know.

35:14

What are your thoughts on it?

35:16

To me, it was kind of a nothing burger.

35:17

The way I think about it is, it reminds me of when No Back Joke of Ishka

35:21

had defaulted from the US Open for smacking a ball out of frustration.

35:25

I think hitting the Lions judge or the ball due to whatever.

35:29

She got hit.

35:30

She was frustrated in the game, frustrated with herself.

35:32

Maybe frustrated, she got hit high.

35:34

I don't know.

35:35

It was like, she closed her eyes and just hit the ball.

35:37

Like, she's not.

35:38

There's no way she's aiming like nobody in all of Pickle Ball would take that ball on purpose

35:44

and aim it at somebody else.

35:45

Like, I don't think a single person would do that.

35:48

And so to me, it's just like similar to hating grabbing a ball and launching it

35:51

out of the facility.

35:52

She did the same thing, but it went literally straight, aimed like, head high

35:57

and looked like it was going to hit somebody.

35:58

So I don't know.

36:00

I honestly don't find any issue with it other than the fact that like,

36:04

you know, they lost the game because of it 100%.

36:07

Well, I mean, I think she's got to get a point penalty for it.

36:09

Yeah.

36:10

Like, it's not so the difference is,

36:11

Joe Kovic got matched forfeited.

36:13

Yeah.

36:14

Like, it wasn't match point.

36:15

If Joe Kovic, like, so I think it was a total overreaction for when Joe Kovic,

36:20

but I think a point penalty was accurate for there.

36:22

Yeah.

36:23

Happened to be a game penalty because it was on match point.

36:26

So I feel like the punishment was correct.

36:28

Like, that's got to be a,

36:30

honestly, that feels like that should just be a straight up orange card there.

36:34

Like, so they must have had a blue card to begin with or, or something.

36:38

Because, yeah, I mean, like, that's got to be a point penalty.

36:42

And it was and I think that's accurate.

36:46

Yeah.

36:46

I mean, I just, I just, I don't even remember which ones,

36:49

orange card, which ones, a blue card, they still like,

36:52

evade me.

36:53

But yeah,

36:54

that,

36:55

right, I think it's the same outcomes should have in whether or not she did what she

36:58

did or launched the ball out of the stadium.

37:00

So, all right, for Megan,

37:03

and then slightly awkward because, you know,

37:04

A.J. is on your team and all that stuff.

37:06

But yeah, so that was MLP Chicago.

37:08

We got one more event coming up.

37:11

We have MLP Orlando, Disney.

37:15

It's the same location that they had the bubble when they had the NBA playoffs.

37:21

So it's going to be fun.

37:22

I seem like all the good teams for the most part are there.

37:25

A ton of teams that are fighting for the 12 seed.

37:28

This is going to be probably the best regular season.

37:31

MLP event in MLP history.

37:35

Yeah, no, I think so.

37:37

So that's exciting.

37:38

You have the shock in the fives figuring out who's the number one seed.

37:42

It's probably going to come down to them playing each other in the finals.

37:45

You've got Brooklyn and L.A.

37:46

Potentially going for as high as the three seed over Columbus.

37:51

And a bunch teams looking to squeak in the playoffs.

37:54

There are five teams with shots to make it.

37:58

Or no, maybe four.

38:00

There are four teams with realistic shots.

38:01

I think that the hogs technically could get in if they win the entire thing,

38:04

which wouldn't that be a story.

38:07

But yeah, MLP Orlando is going to be pretty sick.

38:12

So I want to talk about a few other things.

38:14

Before we get fed on, I want to talk about the dink movie, because I fucking hated it.

38:18

I want to talk about, I want to talk about, what else do I want to talk about?

38:24

Probably you.

38:25

Yeah, I do want to figure out a way to talk about me some more.

38:28

Oh, we had something else.

38:29

Oh, I want to talk about your weekend, actually.

38:31

I want to pretend like I will care about your weekend.

38:33

So yeah, let's do that.

38:34

You want to talk about your weekend or you want to talk about the shitty movie?

38:37

Sure.

38:38

I'll give you a brief breakdown of my weekend.

38:40

It was quick.

38:41

So I was at Pickelcon, which is actually pretty cool.

38:44

There was a single con.

38:46

It was in Kansas City.

38:48

There's like 30 courts.

38:49

They had like five different pickleball tournaments happening at the same time,

38:52

all running by different organizations, which was super confusing.

38:56

So there's like a junior tournament from a junior league, and then there's a senior league,

38:59

and then there was an MLP style tournament, and then there was a,

39:02

like a nationals qualifier.

39:04

I couldn't actually understand and figure it out.

39:06

I was thinking about joining, but yeah, they lost me there.

39:10

But they invited me over there to do some like play with the influencer,

39:14

and also an exhibition on hybrid pickleball.

39:18

So for those of you who aren't familiar,

39:19

hybrid pickleball is one able body person, one person in a wheelchair,

39:23

playing together.

39:25

So the rules for players in wheelchairs is they get two bounces.

39:29

Their wheels are kind of like their feet, so that stops them from being in the kitchen.

39:34

For me, I have the same normal rules that apply for me.

39:37

And I made a video saying, there's no wrong time to hit a nasty Nelson,

39:42

but maybe, maybe, maybe there's an exception to that rule,

39:46

if I'm playing hybrid pickleball.

39:47

And so, of course, I'm crazy, but I don't necessarily have the guts,

39:52

but like two points in, the player, the opponent against me,

39:57

just sitting there, brought to serve in his wheelchair,

40:00

and all of a sudden the ball just comes like zooming like one inch from my face,

40:03

as I'm at the net.

40:04

And I was like, oh, this motherfucker will cry too nasty Nelson me.

40:10

Have you ever seen those clips of like the Paralympics ping pong,

40:16

where all they're doing is like drop shotting each other back and forth?

40:19

Yes.

40:20

Like, I feel like, I mean, like, like competitive sport is competitive sport.

40:26

I think, nasty Nelson is more fair game in adaptive pickleball,

40:32

or what did you call it?

40:34

Hybrid pickleball.

40:34

I like to volunteer with adaptive sports at Madison,

40:37

which was a cool program.

40:39

So I have that in my head, but what was it called?

40:41

It was hybrid pickleball, because it was like one of my pick-ball.

40:43

Pickleball is when it's both.

40:45

So yeah, in wheelchair pickleball or a hybrid pickleball,

40:52

I mean, game is game.

40:53

I think nasty Nelson's fair game.

40:55

Yeah.

40:56

One thing I learned is that they are absolutely ruthless,

40:59

and they know their limitations and weaknesses,

41:03

and they exploit it every single time.

41:05

So I've never seen more people hit slicing short serves to the corner,

41:11

trying to pull the other guy in the wheelchair off the court,

41:14

into the wall, like, and then, you know, it was funny.

41:17

I got advice, and it was like, all right.

41:20

He's like, when you go play, your partner who's in a wheelchair is going to tell you,

41:25

your number one strategy is blast the ball as hard as you can at the other guy in a wheelchair.

41:29

I was like, okay, I guess, you know, like, they're just like,

41:32

this is what you got to do.

41:34

Then we got to the point where we were just like, there's a point,

41:37

if you look on my socials of me literally throwing up a lob than a drop,

41:43

then a lob than a drop and a lob in a drop, like four times in a row.

41:46

You just see this guy like just making like a Mario Kart loop back and forth,

41:50

back and forth, and that worked.

41:52

But it was the best experience I've ever had, and also there had to be at least like

41:57

13 nasty Nelson attempts throughout two games.

42:01

The guy even had a shirt on.

42:02

He took his shirt off afterwards, and he had another shirt underneath that just said,

42:06

you don't have the balls to nasty Nelson me.

42:08

I was like,

42:09

we've got a game prepared, which was fantastic.

42:12

And the only nasty that actually happened was my partner

42:17

hitting the other guy in the wheelchair.

42:19

And what they had said is, when you play,

42:22

you know, traditional pickleball,

42:24

you want to hit, you know, center mass, relatively hard, right, and you get them.

42:28

He's like, but because the other opponent in the wheelchair doesn't have as much mobility,

42:33

he's like, the best thing to do is basically just lob a softball over to them.

42:36

And before they know what happened, the ball is just basically just plops and hits them.

42:40

So the guy basically got hit got nasty with like a lob surf was fantastic.

42:45

So I need to see I need to see that clip.

42:47

I'll send out I'll send a super clip of like the literally the 13 times a nasty was attempted.

42:52

Also, they're a little bit shorter closer to the net.

42:54

So I don't have this huge chest to hit to like I basically can aim their face.

42:58

And that's about it.

43:00

So that makes it tough.

43:01

But hey, a win's a win.

43:03

It was super fun.

43:04

I think picklecon might be going to Vegas next year or Arizona,

43:08

but it was bigger than I thought.

43:09

And I think it's only going to get bigger.

43:10

I hope at some point like they partner with like PPA in some way.

43:13

I don't think it'll ever happen, but it's it was cool.

43:16

Like I like the idea of pro sports plus like there's like fireside chats and talks and like

43:21

different vendors that you don't just see, you know, like whatever muscle milk or insure,

43:26

whatever it is at a PPA.

43:27

Like there's like the same five vendors.

43:29

Like so it was more of an experience that you could like sit around and like learn.

43:34

So it was cool.

43:35

10 out of 10 would recommend picklecon.

43:37

Yeah.

43:38

What'd you do?

43:39

Like read how long were you there for like other than, you know,

43:42

hitting nasty Nelson's people in wheelchair and lobbing and actually kind of reminds me of

43:47

a social post that we came up with with the slice.

43:50

Did you see that?

43:51

Oh, no.

43:53

So there's this trend where you go and interview people and you ask one question that they think

43:59

they're answering.

44:01

And then on on the on the post, you say that you have like a completely different question.

44:07

So I asked them like, what's the cheapest way to win a pickleball point?

44:11

And they're like, oh, nasty Nelson.

44:13

LC goes like, probably hitting somebody in the eye.

44:15

And then it cuts back to me.

44:17

And I'm like, I asked the Chicago slice, what's your favorite strategy when playing against

44:23

senior citizens?

44:25

I'm hitting them in the eye.

44:26

And then get the reaction of all like Jamie's laughing.

44:30

LC doesn't get it.

44:31

She's like, what?

44:33

John just no reaction whatsoever.

44:36

Emma's loving it.

44:36

AJ nowhere to be found per usual.

44:41

Yeah.

44:41

Pretty good.

44:42

Pretty good post over there.

44:44

But anyway, I forgot what you were talking about.

44:46

I just wanted to talk about myself some more.

44:48

No, no picklecon just wrapped up.

44:51

Hung out there, met people, and then got a ton of people that wanted to play me and assert

44:56

their dominance.

44:57

And I literally just beat the shit out of every single person.

45:00

Like I had no mercy.

45:01

Like we did like a play against the influencer.

45:03

And then one guy is like, I want to play you in singles.

45:06

Because we were playing like two versus two.

45:07

And he's like, I'm playing in singles.

45:08

I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, not only I'm going to beat you real hard.

45:11

And then I'm going to switch it to my right hand and still beat you.

45:13

So that's what I did.

45:15

You know, these, whether or not they're fans or whatever, like,

45:18

you know, I feel like Zangier, the similar person that likes to cross dreams,

45:21

thrown with a chain saw serve.

45:23

And so, and especially it feels good.

45:25

Like when I get like the, you know, the Chicago slice,

45:28

sage people coming up to me, you know, 15 to 18 that want to,

45:32

want to beat me and can still hang.

45:34

So yeah, it was good to just beat a bunch of people's ass for like eight hours straight.

45:38

And then had a bunch of Kansas City barbecue,

45:41

which, yeah, I might get hate for this.

45:44

Texas barbecue is much better than Kansas City barbecue.

45:46

Like hands down Texas barbecue is better.

45:49

Wow.

45:50

Do you actually agree on something for once?

45:53

I think so.

45:53

I don't, I don't know who doesn't agree unless you like living Kansas City.

45:57

I think their barbecue is good.

45:59

Don't get me wrong.

46:00

And also, I'm not the biggest barbecue person.

46:02

Like I can either like once every two weeks, a maximum.

46:06

It's not like a burrito that I could eat every day.

46:08

But yeah, Texas barbecue undefeated Kansas City.

46:11

You got some work to do.

46:12

100%.

46:13

You just can't beat the brisket.

46:15

No, that's true.

46:16

That's way different.

46:17

Way different style of brisket.

46:19

Texas brisket is fantastic.

46:21

It's like, I don't know how to describe it.

46:22

Squishy and big.

46:23

And the other ones more like sliced, daily lunch meat.

46:25

I didn't get it.

46:26

So yeah, look, disgusting, disgusting.

46:29

They should be ashamed of themselves.

46:31

So you can have discussed the thing.

46:32

Should we talk about the dink movie?

46:34

You hated it.

46:36

What an intro.

46:37

Oh my god.

46:38

Okay, do we agree on that too?

46:39

One of the worst movies I've ever seen.

46:41

It's saying I don't actually think I agree with you.

46:44

So here's the thing.

46:45

I watched the movie today.

46:47

This morning for pod research.

46:50

And also because I was interested.

46:51

And here's my takeaway.

46:53

Is that if you like pickleball,

46:55

it might be really frustrating and hard to watch.

46:58

But if you're not a pickleball player,

47:00

I think it actually might be enjoyable.

47:02

And here's what I mean.

47:03

It's saying, do you get sent randomly,

47:07

like maybe like once a month?

47:08

Like there's like a viral video on TikTok or Instagram.

47:13

And your non-pickable friends send it to you

47:15

thinking it's hilarious.

47:16

Like for example,

47:17

like a guy hitting playing pickleball

47:19

with a frying pan in a farmer suit.

47:22

Right? Like when that happened,

47:24

old man non-pickable friends would send that.

47:26

Right?

47:26

Yeah.

47:27

But here's the thing.

47:29

I thought that was funny.

47:30

That's you in the farmer.

47:31

Like tune it up, old people with the frying pan.

47:35

Like, yeah, that's you was actually funny.

47:38

See, I find that stuff to be not super funny.

47:41

I'm like, all right, I enjoy other pickleball content.

47:43

And I was like, this stuff,

47:45

yeah, I've seen like a hundred times.

47:46

It's no longer exciting.

47:48

And like, so this happens like once every three months.

47:51

Right?

47:51

And I think the dink movie is similar to those videos

47:54

where it's like,

47:55

if you're in the pickleball world,

47:56

you can't appreciate some of the humor.

47:58

Some of the stuff doesn't make any sense.

47:59

And you're like, we don't actually say that on the court.

48:01

But it's, I think it's funny for tennis players

48:04

or non-pickable players or whatever.

48:05

I enjoyed it.

48:06

It actually got like 74% on Rotten Tomatoes,

48:09

which is insane.

48:11

Yeah, that's crazy to me.

48:13

I just like, I was, I put this in my review.

48:16

Like, I was absolutely ready to like,

48:18

have a laugh at pickleball players.

48:20

And I did not have, I didn't have high expectations,

48:23

whatever.

48:24

I watched the trailer.

48:25

I had eyes or have eyes.

48:27

So I, and unfortunately ears.

48:29

So I didn't have eye expectations.

48:31

And my just abysmal expectations were met.

48:35

Like, I just, I like comedy.

48:38

It just wasn't funny.

48:39

And it was just like a weird romance that like,

48:42

there were like five, there were like five funny parts

48:45

of the movie.

48:46

Like, there were a few good one liners,

48:48

a few good jokes.

48:49

But like, you know, go watch Kill Tony for 70 seconds

48:52

and you'll have better stuff, right?

48:55

Like, so maybe I think it under delivered

49:00

for the amount of time.

49:02

Five good lines, you know, an hour and 45 minute movie.

49:07

Boring love story.

49:10

Not like, I didn't have any expectations.

49:12

Good pickleball either.

49:14

So like, don't even, don't even use that as an argument against me.

49:17

So you don't let the movies were like a 70 year old,

49:20

or like a 30 year old trying to crack a 70 year old.

49:22

Like, I was like, I'm really confused in the middle of the movie.

49:24

I'm like, oh, no, what's happening here?

49:26

I got the answer.

49:28

Like, he's, he's coming over her house to watch the graduate,

49:31

which I thought was funny.

49:32

She's like, oh, March this movie to graduate.

49:33

He has no idea what the fuck is happening.

49:34

And, you know, it's definitely a movie about

49:36

an older woman trying to seduce a younger man.

49:38

Anyway, I thought that was pretty funny.

49:40

And then I was like, I really hope that they don't kiss.

49:42

I hope that there's like, you know, it was bizarre.

49:46

But, you know, it's not relatable.

49:49

I've never tried to crack, you know, my 65 plus mixed doubles partners,

49:54

you know, to the delight of my wife.

49:56

But, no, I mean, I thought it was, I thought Ben Stiller's part was,

49:59

was funny.

50:00

I thought those lines were good.

50:01

I like new girl.

50:02

Like, did you ever watch new girl?

50:05

That makes sense.

50:06

Yeah, you would.

50:07

So, new girl has Nick Miller.

50:08

Nick Miller is like one of the goaded characters of TV history.

50:12

And that's whatever name is Jake Johnson,

50:14

the main character of the movie.

50:15

And so I think probably it's also a little bit residual there.

50:17

But, I mean, I had to take a look because you're like,

50:20

this movie sucks for anybody that likes pickleball

50:22

or anybody that likes comedy or has eyes or ears or whatever.

50:26

I read your review or heard your review.

50:28

And so I went through and I looked here are some movies

50:31

that have lower reviews than the dink.

50:37

All right.

50:38

Jumanji.

50:39

Jumanji has a worse rating.

50:40

The original or the ones with the original.

50:43

The original has a worse rating on Ron tomatoes.

50:46

Wild.

50:47

Footloos.

50:47

Footloos.

50:48

Never seen it.

50:50

A goofy movie.

50:51

Hook.

50:52

Don't know it.

50:53

Top.

50:53

Top gun.

50:55

Good to see it.

50:56

Which top gun?

50:57

The first top gun.

50:59

Say, and are you?

51:00

Are you 18 or how old are you?

51:02

You're like 30.

51:03

I got him.

51:03

How have you not seen these movies?

51:05

Troy with Brad Pitt.

51:08

Haven't seen it.

51:09

My gosh.

51:09

This is insane.

51:10

I thought the Odyssey.

51:11

That was phenomenal.

51:12

I just think maybe Zane just doesn't know movies.

51:15

I don't know.

51:16

Say, what's what's like your top movie?

51:19

Like if you gave me like your top three,

51:20

like what what what movies are watching?

51:21

Honestly, I was just talking.

51:23

It might be the Odyssey.

51:25

Like the Odyssey was phenomenal.

51:26

Have you seen it yet?

51:27

I did.

51:27

I saw it.

51:28

Oh, yeah.

51:29

So the Odyssey has got to be up there.

51:31

I like some weird ones.

51:32

Like I like some ones.

51:34

Like we'll see the usual suspects with Kevin Spacey.

51:39

Not because of Kevin Spacey,

51:40

but because it's a good movie.

51:42

That's a great one.

51:43

The hangover.

51:43

Actual comedy.

51:44

Oh, there you go.

51:45

That's a good movie.

51:46

Let's see.

51:47

You know, there's plenty of good sports movies and what not.

51:52

Yeah, the usual suspects.

51:53

Matrix is a good movie.

51:54

I've got it all listed out in a spreadsheet.

51:56

What my ratings are for them.

51:57

Oh my gosh.

52:00

Let's see.

52:02

Touch me if you can.

52:03

That's a good one with the

52:04

theo de caprio and

52:08

Tom Hanks.

52:09

Tom Hanks.

52:10

Yeah, there's a bunch of good ones.

52:11

That's good.

52:11

And the Odyssey, by the way, fantastic.

52:13

I am at the age where I literally had to take a 20-minute

52:17

pregame nap in the car in the parking lot of the movie theater

52:20

to prepare prepare myself for a three-hour movie.

52:22

Luckily for me, the movie is so fucking loud

52:25

that I should never fall asleep in that movie ever.

52:27

But it's fantastic.

52:29

Like that movie was like hit after every part of

52:31

like every second of that movie was great.

52:33

Yeah, I was wired the entire like I agree.

52:37

I normally fall asleep for any movie

52:39

that like goes past 9 p.m.

52:41

And that's not a joke.

52:42

I was wired until like 10 30.

52:44

Now it might have been the just absolutely

52:46

copious amounts of Diet Coke that I consumed in preparation.

52:50

But it was phenomenal.

52:53

Same.

52:53

I think probably my best movie.

52:54

Favorite movie.

52:55

So we always do rate my duper and we'll do rate my duper later

52:58

in this episode as well.

52:59

But I want to get your duper rating for the Dink movie.

53:02

2.5.

53:06

I gave it a two out of 10 in my movie rating skills.

53:08

The same as the new Super Mario movie from a couple

53:12

months ago, which I don't know why I went to.

53:16

You went to this movie in the theaters?

53:18

I did.

53:18

I was really bored.

53:21

Wow, you have like no ties.

53:22

And you were one of the busiest men in all of Pickleball.

53:24

And you choose to spend two hours go see Mario Galaxy.

53:28

I've seen the movie too.

53:30

But I have four kids.

53:31

So but the first Mario movie was actually really good too.

53:33

And the second one wasn't that.

53:35

That's right.

53:35

But I'm given this like a 3.4, 3.5 duper.

53:40

So I think it's actually better than you think.

53:42

I think more people will like it than you'll think as well.

53:46

Saying you're just too high brow for a movie like the Dink.

53:49

So you like the Odyssey.

53:50

Catch me if you can.

53:52

If you probably like, I don't know what other

53:54

high brow movies there are, but not a fan of Super Mario,

53:56

not a fan of the Dink, not a fan of fun.

53:59

Same now.

53:59

Yeah.

54:00

It was just as predictable.

54:02

It was not funny.

54:03

There were no like redeeming qualities about the movie.

54:07

So yeah.

54:08

Anyway, that's my that's my take.

54:10

Go watch literally like any stand up comedy routine for more than three minutes.

54:16

And they'll get more laughs than you did at the Dink.

54:18

But we did actually have a good time.

54:20

We were stacking.

54:22

I don't know if you saw this.

54:22

We were stacking as much popcorn as we possibly could on AJ's head

54:26

because he was sleeping.

54:27

And we were bored.

54:28

So that was that was pretty fun.

54:31

Yeah, we ended up with like 20 pieces of popcorn on AJ's head before he woke up.

54:36

Oh, where we woke up.

54:38

When you said when you said stacking, I thought you meant just like one on top of another.

54:40

I was like, that sounds pretty hard, but you basically just like poured a bucket of popcorn on his head.

54:44

One piece of popcorn at a time.

54:45

On the brim on the brim of his hat.

54:47

Yeah.

54:47

Okay.

54:48

And on top of the hat, it was entertaining.

54:51

All right.

54:51

All right.

54:52

Well, that's a good use of time.

54:53

So Zane, keep this in your shirt.

54:55

6-0 pickleball mesh black shirt.

54:58

I have never felt more athletic as a non-athlete.

55:03

Do I officially look like an athlete at this point?

55:06

I mean, Nico, as much as a shirt can make you look athletic, I think this one does.

55:12

So take that for whatever it's worth.

55:14

All right.

55:14

A win is a win here.

55:17

My guys at 6-0 pickleball are launching a new line of athletic wear.

55:23

And it's not just like we took a shirt from a random factory and did no research.

55:30

And then we just said, oh, this is a pickleball shirt.

55:31

We saw it there logo on it.

55:32

No, they actually like designed a shirt for pickleball players.

55:35

Because one, this one is like nice and tied around the arm.

55:38

So like if you can see these these bad boys right here, you haven't been working out.

55:42

But also when I sweat my ass off, it still like feels good.

55:46

I've been wearing these all week.

55:48

So anyway, shout out to them.

55:50

It took me forever to get a 6-0 paddle.

55:52

But I've enjoyed them.

55:54

And now I'm enjoying the shirts and the shorts as well.

55:58

So if you guys are in the market for a new set of pickleball attire, get the 6-0 performance line.

56:06

It's pickleball gear for people that know pickleball, built for pickleball players.

56:10

So if you want to look like an almost athlete like me in the words of Zane,

56:13

I don't know, I sure actually exactly sure what he said.

56:16

Just head over to 6-0 site.

56:17

That's 6-0 pickleball.com.

56:20

S-I-X-Z-E-R-O pickleball.com.

56:23

Check them out.

56:25

This is all the respect that we need for our podcast.

56:27

Is that when we say, hey Fed, we want you to join.

56:30

I can spend 20 minutes while supercharging my car.

56:35

You only do those on my house.

56:36

I can go to like this street.

56:38

No, this is perfect.

56:39

This is perfect.

56:39

Zane does half of his podcast in Panera Bread.

56:42

No, this is just a new market.

56:45

We love a good car interview.

56:47

You're in good company with James Ignata Witch.

56:52

Is he?

56:54

I feel like we had a car interview this year as well.

56:56

James was last year.

56:58

Oh, not yet.

57:00

We had Duke Wong in his car.

57:06

Ah, yeah.

57:07

57:10

You are, you're in James Ignata Witch,

57:13

Duke Wong, Fed Stocks, Rune Territory.

57:15

How does it feel?

57:18

They're just going to go in the podcast, right?

57:22

Oh, yeah.

57:25

What are we laughing at?

57:25

No, we're doing it today, Fred.

57:27

No, this is good company for sure.

57:29

This is good company for sure.

57:30

That's what I want.

57:31

All right.

57:33

Well, on a serious note, speaking of good company,

57:37

you got traded to the New Jersey Fives.

57:40

You now are on a team with Will Howells,

57:44

No A Clif, Annelie Waters,

57:47

your teammate, Millie Rain, and George Johnson,

57:50

which is just a powerhouse of a team.

57:54

There had been conversations about you being traded for,

57:58

I don't know, probably like a month leading up to this point.

58:02

Like, when did you figure out it was actually going to happen?

58:07

Like, when did you realize, like, all right,

58:09

this is probably going to happen.

58:10

I'm going to get traded.

58:13

Yeah, I mean, I tell you everything because it happened.

58:17

Like last week, I mean, who, you know,

58:21

worked with us at the Orlando Squeeze,

58:24

he was like, hey, what do you want to do?

58:26

Like, there's these possibilities.

58:28

There's these, you know, options.

58:30

So I actually thought about it.

58:32

I was like, you know, I mean, you know,

58:34

I love being on the squeeze.

58:35

I've been on the squeeze for like three years,

58:36

but it kind of like, go to the point,

58:39

this year that released to me,

58:41

it was going to be hard for us to compete.

58:43

So, I mean, honestly, he gave me kind of like a bunch

58:47

of different options that teams that were asking for me.

58:50

And I, you know, I gave him an answer,

58:53

you know, what I thought it was going to be.

58:55

And honestly, like two days after,

58:57

these was to say a Friday or something,

59:00

two days after, you know, I asked him, is anything going to happen?

59:05

And he was like, now, not really,

59:08

we're going to just roll with his crew

59:10

until the other season.

59:12

So it was okay.

59:12

Sounds good.

59:13

And then Monday, I think it was Monday, the deadline.

59:18

They started, you know, like, I started getting calls.

59:21

I was on a plane and I started getting calls.

59:23

I couldn't answer the phone.

59:25

I started getting texts from Ryan,

59:27

who is the owner of the team.

59:29

And then, yeah, kind of like last minute,

59:32

like 20 minutes into the deadline, everything happened.

59:36

And I didn't even know that it was going to be the five.

59:38

So I thought it was maybe going to be on the other team,

59:41

like the moddrops or something like that.

59:43

But he ended up in the five.

59:45

So, yeah, honestly, super excited.

59:47

You know, I went to, I got a train where I'm in a team

59:52

that is first place.

59:53

So it's pretty cool.

59:55

Yeah, absolutely.

59:57

Yeah, there were a lot of questions around the circumstance of it.

1:00:02

Because obviously it got announced like four or five hours

1:00:06

after the the trade deadline.

1:00:07

For, I was honestly like, what the fuck is going on?

1:00:13

Like, how does this happen after the trade deadline?

1:00:15

After we've already moved the trade deadline, 17 times this year.

1:00:18

Yeah.

1:00:19

But I actually, I didn't even know that it was sorted.

1:00:23

That I trust that this did actually go get in before the deadline.

1:00:26

But like, for whatever reason.

1:00:27

And the GMs wanted to call the players.

1:00:30

So they didn't see it on social media.

1:00:32

So, I had a good reason for holding the announcement.

1:00:38

Yeah.

1:00:40

So, I mean, my question after that is the crazy part is,

1:00:45

how was this the best offer that the squeeze got?

1:00:49

Right?

1:00:50

I mean, Nico had heard some, Nico, you want to take

1:00:53

go through this?

1:00:54

Because I thought you had heard some other offers

1:00:56

that were being thrown around.

1:00:58

No, yeah.

1:00:58

I mean, there was a ton.

1:01:00

Like, so like from what I heard at least from like the five,

1:01:03

it's like, I heard that the five's were willing to give away

1:01:06

400,000 plus the choice of no way or will to a couple of teams.

1:01:11

I heard that they were willing to even package in a deal with Georgia Johnson.

1:01:16

Who had Georgia and No way and like 600,000 in cash to another team.

1:01:23

Possibly to try and get Ben Johns.

1:01:25

I don't know.

1:01:25

There was like a ton.

1:01:26

And so my thought was, I guess, how did I want,

1:01:30

I just don't know how the squeeze didn't get No way or will.

1:01:36

And if there was anything like like,

1:01:38

like, Pacific, like, were you trying to go to the fives or or or how did how did they only get

1:01:45

two bench players and 400K and they lost Millie.

1:01:48

Like, I don't know.

1:01:49

To me, it doesn't make sense.

1:01:49

I don't think anybody makes a lot of sense.

1:01:53

Yeah, I mean, honestly, like, I was not involved in the trade,

1:01:57

you know, negotiations.

1:01:58

Like, I just got traded.

1:02:00

I had nothing to do with it.

1:02:01

I didn't even know that Millie wasn't on the trade.

1:02:05

I was honestly really surprised that Millie got traded

1:02:09

of going from being a starter to probably on the bench of the fives right now.

1:02:18

But I mean, yeah, I don't know.

1:02:21

Honestly, I don't know how to ask that question because I was not the I was not the guy that

1:02:26

actually made the decision.

1:02:28

But yeah, I mean, you would think that maybe this squeeze was going to try to get a guy

1:02:36

that they could use on the roster where it could be well annoyed.

1:02:42

For me, I would say I'm happy that that didn't happen because now we have so many good options

1:02:47

that we can use on the mixed doubles lineup.

1:02:49

But also the next levels lineup, we have three really good men's doubles players that we can

1:02:54

rotate if someone gets injured, which injuries happen or sick whatever.

1:02:59

We have a really good lineup.

1:03:01

So now we're going to be tough.

1:03:02

We're going to be tough for sure on the on the end of the season.

1:03:06

Yeah, is it possible you have too many options, right?

1:03:09

Because I mean, I was trying to game plan when this first thing came out,

1:03:12

we actually we went live, Nico and I went live, you were watching the live from your plane.

1:03:17

You can use that five.

1:03:20

Any of our questions.

1:03:22

But Aiden did sort of like, man, the fives have a lot of options and with one regular season event

1:03:30

left, like, is it possible there's actually too many options? Would it have been a simpler break

1:03:36

to actually, would it have potentially been better to get rid of Will or Noa just for clarity,

1:03:41

sake?

1:03:43

Yeah, it's usually the same, but I think honestly for us, the players, it's good.

1:03:49

It gives us motivation of, I don't want to be in the bench, I want to play hard, I want to go out

1:03:54

and do my best, I want to compete. I think the problem is the coach and the GM.

1:03:59

They are going to have to decide and they're going to have to be the ones that you

1:04:03

will be like, what, you're going to sit out on this one.

1:04:08

And I think with the players, we have to agree and also support each other that whatever happens,

1:04:14

we are all pushing to the same direction, which is to win a championship.

1:04:18

If we all do that, we have the best chances. But I think for us, it's fine.

1:04:22

The coach is in their hands.

1:04:27

Is there any order?

1:04:28

Any order?

1:04:29

Is there any insight right now into who's playing with who? Any partnership insights?

1:04:34

Are you playing with Annelie or what are we looking at?

1:04:39

We practice yesterday, mixed doubles, which is rotate, Will, Georgia, and Annelie.

1:04:47

Noa is not here in Florida, so I guess tomorrow we're going to have a team practice.

1:04:53

I've been practicing around with Will and me on the right, him on the left.

1:04:58

We'll see when Noa gets here how we can match.

1:05:03

I think it's going to be interesting. I think it's going to be a lot of

1:05:05

also in Orlando itself against some teams. Maybe we'll switch it around. We see what happens.

1:05:14

It's going to be a tough decision for the coach for sure.

1:05:17

Yeah. Good decision though. You guys have as good of a shot as any of beating the shock.

1:05:27

That's going to be a dog fight. I said after this trade happened and I caught some

1:05:30

flack for it. But I would so love to see you end of the shock. The fives and the shock.

1:05:37

Go play a 4 out of 7 traveling series back and forth. Just give the people what they want.

1:05:43

Let's get this right. I think there's really good teams. I still think Brooklyn,

1:05:50

on their full force, they're really dangerous. Columbus have great warmest doubles team.

1:05:56

I mean, Andrew and CJ are both top four PPA team.

1:06:02

Missing one. Madros. Madros are so good at the Ben Johns. I still think it's going to be

1:06:09

getting into the final spot. It's going to be super tough. I think new for them. New

1:06:14

work is going to be super interesting. Yeah. So, you know, some people were saying that you sort of,

1:06:21

you see this in other sports, that players can sort of exert some influence on where they end

1:06:27

up going. However, in pickleball, there really isn't too much influence that you can really have.

1:06:35

Because we're not in charge of where we sign with.

1:06:40

Any team can go grab a player and you can't really say no, right? Or you're technically not allowed to.

1:06:48

Do you think in whatever version of pickleball comes down the road that we need to have a

1:06:56

real free agency, kind of like Will Howell suggested, where the teams pay the players and the players

1:07:02

actually get their choice rather than being told that they got drafted somewhere or another?

1:07:08

I think 100% especially because it adds more motivation to the players. For example, me,

1:07:15

I'm going to be in the New Jersey Fives for literally three events, you know, or the two,

1:07:22

whatever. I don't know how many how many we have left. But let's say three events. And then that's

1:07:27

it. It's not that I'm like, okay, I'm starting to build something with a new team and a new coach.

1:07:33

You know, I'm going to be with them for like three events and see you guys. We'll see next year,

1:07:38

you know, it's just like this spontaneous rotation is come make makes it a little bit like

1:07:44

where you can really build something. I think if you do that, then it's like, yeah, you have your own

1:07:49

salary with a team and then it's only working hard and you really like the whatever franches you

1:07:55

are on and you know, that keeps you motivated. I think and of course you can build a relationship with

1:07:59

like the fans, people follow you, which I honestly, I honestly had it in Orlando for a while. Like,

1:08:05

I was with them for three years. That's a long time. I honestly knew everything about the team.

1:08:11

You just learned so much with the whoever worked with you. They were amazing by the way.

1:08:17

And it was an also time and honestly, I would go to Orlando do events and people already knew me and

1:08:22

I really kind of like remember them from from my bands. And I think that's kind of cool and that's

1:08:27

what you know, pickable community we need. And people following you, you know, that kind of start

1:08:32

makes it interesting. Yeah. Yeah. For example, for example, when I when I thought about the Fives,

1:08:41

I would think about St. Navratio, you know, like you were really involved with that brand, with that

1:08:47

team. I think that you need like faces. Analy Waters is the Fives. Like I couldn't see Analy Waters

1:08:52

with anybody else, you know. Like that kind of stuff, I think is makes it easier to follow. Yeah,

1:08:58

that's the girl that plays for the Fives. That's you know, JW Dallas Flash. Like you can't think

1:09:04

about JW playing for Brooklyn, you know, like it's stuff for me to think that way. I don't know.

1:09:10

Yeah. So Fett, if you let's say you could not be on the squeeze, you could not be on the Fives

1:09:16

next year. What team does Federico Staxford want to go, you know, plant down and become the face of

1:09:23

when you think of New Jersey, you think of A.L. You think of Orlando, you think of Fett. Like

1:09:31

where would you want to end up next year if you had to say in the matter?

1:09:35

I mean, if you ask me like that, I would say Miami, like that's kind of like a team, you know,

1:09:41

like Lert Latino community, people will, you know, get involved with me, whatever. I was actually on

1:09:46

that team for a little bit, but I think that will be my preference, not because nothing, but I think

1:09:53

that kind of stuff like Tom B's Royals, whatever. I think something like that will be good feet,

1:09:59

I would say, but I want to win the best team. That's the matter.

1:10:03

They're not. So not the hugs.

1:10:08

Well, we actually have to play, we actually have to play the hugs on Thursdays.

1:10:12

I asked me that question after.

1:10:15

So when you think of the hugs, who's the face of the hugs, Brandon French?

1:10:19

Ben Johns, Ben Johns, 100% Ben Johns.

1:10:23

Forever. He's not out of the hugs anymore. Yeah, but Ben was in the hugs. When I think of the

1:10:27

hugs, I think Ben and Colin get it off.

1:10:33

By the way, how's the training going?

1:10:39

With the fives, just like the practice team practice?

1:10:43

No, no, no, Paris Todd's augment, learning how to count to five in English.

1:10:49

No, I was actually like, I was maybe getting Ryan doing it. That's going to be cool. That's

1:10:55

going to be cool. I've always been on the other side of listening. You guys count and now I get to

1:11:00

count. So this is going to be interesting. And I get to play around with the clowns. So that's

1:11:05

going to be good too. Yeah, you hated that shit. Now you get to join it. Yeah, now the clowns

1:11:10

are going to be on my side. I'm going to use it for my for my four. You guys have to count in

1:11:15

Spanish. Like you got, you got, you know, get the Latino crowd. Yeah, yeah, you're going to get

1:11:20

something going. You're going to get something going. You know what I mean? There we go.

1:11:26

I was doing, I was yelling that last year. We were going Vamo. So it's when you win three points

1:11:31

in a row. That's what it is or two points. What is it saying? Yeah, but we're kind of liberally

1:11:35

interpreting that now. It's not, it was originally you win three points in a row and you keep,

1:11:42

you do the count every time afterwards that you want to keep going. You just keep going. You got

1:11:46

to get it. Stop until you lose a point. But now Ryan kind of just does it whenever he wants.

1:11:52

So I feel like it's more fortunate. I like, I loved it when it had a meeting. But when it didn't

1:11:59

have a meeting, I didn't like it as much. Yeah, you're really structured saying that's what happens.

1:12:04

You're really structured and when they, they throw you off your structure, you know, you're lost.

1:12:10

I can't, luncheon. I can't, I can't, you know, you need your exo sheets.

1:12:14

You know me too well, dude. Yeah, I know you well. Just wait.

1:12:22

All right, I got more important questions for you. Where do you stand? I want to know,

1:12:28

is Federico Stocksrude on the right side of history when it comes to the great bucket hat

1:12:35

debate of this generation? Are you pro bucket hat or are you anti bucket hat? No, I love, I love

1:12:43

bucket hats outside of the court on the court. Please, man, I was talking, I was actually like,

1:12:51

joy, wow, I saw him playing and at least get a bucket hat that has like, I don't know,

1:12:57

you're the team logo on there, like something like he has like an old face like the one that you

1:13:01

buy to go hiking with your wife on Utah. So like, so one of these? Yeah, so yeah, that's

1:13:13

not, yeah, I mean, we're trying to ruin people over the world, like, what are the times, do you?

1:13:18

Wow, Fed, I feel like I've seen some pictures of you golfing in bucket hats. Yeah, 100%.

1:13:24

I'll say the people will go to this good. So do you, so you agree with,

1:13:29

don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, it's actually, don't, it's not that bad, but why, you know,

1:13:36

well, it's sold out, so you can't have one. They're back in stock, August 12th, but, yeah, you,

1:13:41

you can't have one right now. How many of you did five? They sold out. You hate to see it.

1:13:47

Wow. Anyway, Federico Stocksroot, bucket hat hater. Thank you for coming on the pod. That's all

1:13:51

the time we have for you today. Thank you so much. We actually, we really get you off.

1:14:00

Nico, it's been a minute since the lefty reset. It's been a minute. How is your, how's your health

1:14:05

journey with Merrick gone? What are you up to these days? Yeah. So it's actually been going fantastic.

1:14:13

I will say maybe there was a slight slip up where I went to Kansas City and I all the barbecue

1:14:17

that I could possibly find, which by the way is not as good as Texas barbecue. I will die on that hill.

1:14:24

And maybe Merrick health could have told me that ahead of time, but when Merrick Health does,

1:14:28

I wanted to highlight Merrick diagnostics. So there's like Merrick Health that does all of these

1:14:37

different things, you know, from blood tests, blood work to supplementation. There's like a full

1:14:44

gamut, right? So you can be as detailed as you want to be. But if you're just interested in the

1:14:50

initial phases, you want to discover what's, you know, working for your body, where your markers

1:14:56

are actually at, you just use Merrick diagnostics, all right? So we cut out all of the stuff that maybe

1:15:02

you're not ready for. We start with a blood test and you can get a couple of markers or you can get

1:15:07

like a full panel that tells you basically everything, whether or not you have low T, whether or not,

1:15:14

you have low vitamin D. There's a ton of different things. So you get the blood test,

1:15:18

you take it and then you can start your health journey. However you see fit.

1:15:23

The test comes at all different price points. You can get a test as cheap as $10 for a few

1:15:31

biomarkers or you can get the full gamut. You use the order online, then you walk into any quest

1:15:36

diagnostics for a blood draw, results at your inbox, easy as that. So with Merrick, you can check out

1:15:42

Merrick diagnostics, get over to MerrickDiagnostics.com, use code TheDink for 10% off. Again, that's

1:15:50

M-A-R-E-K-D-I-A-G-N-O-S-T-I-C-S.com and get 10% off with code TheDink.

1:16:01

All right, we're going to play a stupid game that Nico created.

1:16:06

Hold on, before we do this, Federico, do you like sports movies?

1:16:12

Yeah, I love it.

1:16:14

Okay, why don't we just do a sports movie draft with Federico? That's probably better. You got a

1:16:18

choice. We can talk about Disney characters or we can talk about sports movies.

1:16:24

I feel like I will be bad at that because I know them in Spanish names and we will get all

1:16:29

confused. You can just do it on the villain, whatever. The villain, okay, we'll do that. All right,

1:16:35

all right, so we're just trying to figure out, one is I want to figure out like team hero versus

1:16:41

team villain. So I want to get your guys' take on this. We're going to MLP Orlando, Disney Capital

1:16:47

of the world. I want to figure out which players play on team villain, which players play on team

1:16:55

hero and which team is actually better. So Federico, first I'm going to start with you. Are you team

1:17:00

villain or are you team hero? I have my thoughts, but... No, I think I'm team villain.

1:17:06

Historically villain, I'm trying to be a hero, but not in...

1:17:11

No, not there yet. I think you're right, but you're a likable villain. You're charismatic and

1:17:18

likable. I'm like the one that he's like, we know he's a villain, but we keep him around because

1:17:25

he's a good time. He's a good time. Who is that? Who is that? That's like the... It was it. Is it

1:17:34

Hades from Hercules? I feel like that's like a Federico villain. That's a good question.

1:17:39

I would think... They're toy story villains, they're like funny villains.

1:17:46

Some of them are pretty ruthless. What about Analy Waters?

1:17:56

I have stuff. She... I don't say slightly hero, but it's not that clear. It's not that clear.

1:18:04

I think so. Like the thing... The things that the villain can't win that much.

1:18:16

Analy Waters is always the character in a movie that other people are going to be trying to

1:18:20

dethrone, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like she's so good, it's hard to write a story about her being

1:18:27

so freaking good. She would always be the person trying to be knocked off by the hero in a movie,

1:18:32

which puts her kind of like that as the villain. That's how I see it. Yeah, that's how I see it.

1:18:39

All right. Yeah, that's so villain. We agree on villain.

1:18:43

So then who's... I'm trying to think about other villains right now is... Hey, Hayden's got to be

1:18:51

team villain, right? Is there anybody more villain? He's number one.

1:18:58

Number one of the villains. Hayden's team villain. I think you got to put Gabe team hero for sure.

1:19:06

Gabe. Yeah, yeah, he used team hero. Gabe's easy hero. I feel like you got to go

1:19:13

animate. Yeah, right. Team hero. Jaydav is team hero. CJ team super hero.

1:19:20

Well, CJ team hero for sure. Yeah, CJ is like the best hero.

1:19:26

Yeah, Zane, you are Zane. I think Zane's team hero, but Zane is more like, he's hero side characters.

1:19:35

So like you're like Moushou in Lawn or like the Camurian in Tangled. You're not the main character,

1:19:42

but you're like the funny guy. You're like Don Quix and Shrek. Like that is you.

1:19:50

Shrek is so good. Don Quix and Shrek is amazing. That's amazing.

1:19:58

And there's like Captain America, you know, like, like, insane hero.

1:20:04

Wow. What are you then, Nico? What do you have any? What are you?

1:20:08

I'm team villain. I'm I want to be a man. I'm stressing.

1:20:13

Nico.

1:20:19

I thought that was wrong. Now I'm handsome Shrek. I'm Shrek once he turns into a man.

1:20:25

Exactly. The human human human human. Yeah, exactly.

1:20:31

Oh, Alshon villain.

1:20:34

Oof, they wonder if everybody wants to kill right away.

1:20:38

And he's like the one. So I'm not sure. You know, those like Disney movies where

1:20:42

the hero or the villain really thinks he's doing the right thing like he doesn't understand

1:20:47

that he's the villain. That is Christian Alshon. Like Christian Alshon is talking about Shrek

1:20:52

movies. Christian Alshon is literally the same. What's the guy the guy that has the long hair

1:20:58

in the shrek movie? You know, North Park what? No, no far, no far, no far,

1:21:02

what is the blue one? They don't want the top that the top German charming is the

1:21:09

That's that's that's crucial. The same person

1:21:15

Yeah, I think I think

1:21:18

Clearist clears villains

1:21:20

He Christian reminds me a little bit of the the shooter from the Odyssey that we were just talking about too

1:21:28

Oh the shooter

1:21:30

You see the Odyssey? Yeah, so I saw yesterday amazing amazing

1:21:34

nominal. Yeah, the the shooter like the main shooter guy. Oh the Robert Panson guy. Oh, why?

1:21:39

Yeah, but it's a new

1:21:42

Yeah, I guess yeah, yeah, I can see it. Even instructions

1:21:47

Who else you got for us man John's

1:21:51

Here here

1:21:53

Hero, but doesn't want to even be a hero

1:21:55

Yeah

1:22:01

Yeah, fair

1:22:06

What character is that I don't even know like what Disney character I feel like I feel like there is there is but

1:22:13

But I don't know yeah, that kind of like um

1:22:16

What's the Ryan Reynolds one where he's like kind of an anti hero like doesn't really want to be

1:22:21

He's a hero, but he's kind of in it for himself

1:22:25

Deadpool, yeah, I mean he's

1:22:29

Like character, but it's got he shares that sort of a it's like shazam. I don't know if you've seen shazam shazam, but it is

1:22:36

Same thing. It's like I don't want to be this guy

1:22:39

There's not enough I feel like all the women in the league

1:22:42

We almost always just automatically put them on the hero side, but I need you guys to come up with a couple of villain

1:22:49

women

1:22:50

Do it you know what I think Danny Townsend would relish the opportunity to be the villain she's not really but I think she would

1:23:00

Be good in the role. Okay, can you fight here? I think

1:23:03

I like a little villain didn't

1:23:06

Little bit of action

1:23:09

I mean, what about play as a clear villain oh, yeah, oh my god, how did I know you's not immediately say that oh

1:23:17

Yeah, oh

1:23:19

Yeah, I mean those are the only the only only couple maybe Lucy covalova just cuz she's sassy

1:23:28

You sure about that one

1:23:36

Everybody else saying that we're thinking of that we need to put in a category

1:23:39

Now almost all the girls are heroes

1:23:43

That's basically his lay out Kate

1:23:46

Danny I like that pool though. I think Danny Danny is cast as like a hero, but she is waiting like I think

1:23:53

She was actually hoping I think that she became the villain on the Dallas Flash

1:23:56

But then they did so well and like everybody just like she is once again the hero

1:24:00

So I don't think you can avoid it, but

1:24:03

Yeah, one day one day it'll change. She'll do something little piss somebody off and I'm excited for the heel turn

1:24:08

She's ready to be Darth Vader. She's ready

1:24:11

All right, Fed we'll let you get back to you. I'm sure your Tesla is charged by now and you don't like bucket hats

1:24:19

So it's it's for real time to get rid of you now

1:24:24

We I'm just bad. I'm just bummed though by the way that we didn't get you on for the World Cup

1:24:29

We talk a lot about the World Cup on this podcast. We are pro soccer. Oh

1:24:34

My pro soccer. We're pro Argentina. You know, by the way Fed you're gonna hate this well like I

1:24:40

So maybe I should get you take on this, but we talked to Anneli Waters is old soccer coach

1:24:46

To and cuz he said oh, yeah, so she was like oh Anneli can go pro in six months

1:24:51

I was like this is crazy as good as she is at pickleball. That's crazy, but

1:24:56

We're doing the podcast

1:24:58

In the middle of the Argentina match and I so I don't have it on I'm recording it

1:25:03

And obviously as soon as the podcast ended he's like all right

1:25:07

Messi is like one nothing messy scored. I'm like fuck. I was like why as like don't you know?

1:25:12

We're talking about soccer. You know, I like soccer. Why would you do this?

1:25:15

So that guy is on my debt to me list, but I thought you got it you get it to go to a couple games or yeah, yeah

1:25:22

It was awesome honestly one of the best experience of my life

1:25:26

Going to watch World Cup was insane

1:25:30

Bomb that the last yourself, but it was honestly was insane. They said my final was crazy

1:25:36

Did you what's acid you go to?

1:25:39

I went to honestly all of them of the playoffs

1:25:44

Yeah, four of them so it was great the one of Egypt that they they come back in like 10 minutes was crazy

1:25:52

Um honestly all of them were crazy like

1:25:56

I think that was the problem on the final that they were like so tired because every game went to extra time

1:26:02

So they ended up being you know they were dead, but uh

1:26:05

Yeah, it was it was great. It's great

1:26:08

There's a enjoyed it too, so

1:26:11

I just every time I think the World Cup is over I'm wrong and Nico still manages to bring it up. So

1:26:18

That's why we have now it is over now

1:26:21

So I think I think as soon as I felt bad as as soon as uh fed got traded on his story

1:26:28

He had posted a picture of like sad messy with his silver medal and I had said

1:26:33

This is gonna be fed in in two months or in one month on MLP silver medal

1:26:37

Sad he'll get to be messy just like it's gonna be fun. That'll be funny

1:26:43

All right, well sadly soccer's soccer's done Argentine is done

1:26:47

But the fives they still got a chance. We'll see what you guys do against the shock

1:26:51

But thanks for coming on fed and go appreciate

1:26:54

Thanks, Fed bye-bye

1:26:55

In honor of the dink we're drafting the best sports movies of all time

1:27:01

Nico you want the first pick or the next two

1:27:04

I will take the first pick

1:27:06

Uh, all right. I am taking

1:27:10

Rocky

1:27:14

Rocky

1:27:16

That's a pretty good one. That's kind of like the sports movie of all sports movies right um

1:27:21

Hmm

1:27:22

Analy of sports movies. I think you gotta give me

1:27:26

I gotta go I gotta take the sand lot

1:27:29

Um, that's an epic one

1:27:33

And then

1:27:35

Uh, give me miracle

1:27:38

Miracle all right. Okay, these are two good ones here. I am going to take

1:27:42

Uh, give me remember the Titans

1:27:45

I think that's the Ben Johns of uh sports movies like I'm analy and Ben here

1:27:50

I'm not trying to sway the audience, but it's looking pretty good already and then

1:28:10

I'm gonna zag a little bit. I'm gonna go with a modern classic of moneyball

1:28:15

Phenomenal movie a little bit different a little bit off the beaten path in terms of sports movies

1:28:20

But I think it's a great one um and then let's see

1:28:27

After that

1:28:31

You know what

1:28:38

I feel like I need another comedy and I'm I'm torn between two will Ferrell classics

1:30:03

Taladega nights and blades of glory. Oh

1:30:08

I think Taladega nights is a little bit more in the uh in the uh in the pop culture

1:30:13

So I'm gonna give me Taladega nights. That's a good choice. You know uh honorable mention before I give you my last pick

1:30:19

Speaking of will Ferrell is kicking and screaming if you like soccer
