2:35

So before we get into the various crimes

2:39

that were committed on the field Thursday night in Texas,

2:43

let's begin with I guess the crimes that were allegedly committed, Billy,

2:49

that led to you having to be in court missing the show on Wednesday, not by you.

2:53

Let's clarify that quickly.

2:54

Yeah. Thank you.

2:55

It's like that for jury duty to potentially

2:59

render a verdict on somebody else's case.

3:01

Did you end up on the jury?

3:03

Take me, take me through it here.

3:05

Well, first of all, thank you for having me back.

3:07

I'd like to say that I heard Wednesday's show and I heard a lot of cynicism

3:12

as whether or not I was in fact even summoned to jury duty.

3:16

So I brought my jury summons here to show you

3:18

shield if you would like.

3:20

I heard all my address.

3:21

You're a your wife.

3:22

I turned that part around, but I don't know if a

3:24

juror idea is something that someone could steal.

3:26

So please don't do that.

3:27

But I will say this.

3:28

I heard shield.

3:28

There was some skepticism from not just you.

3:31

Your wife as well was bad mouthing me potentially.

3:34

So if you'd like, you could send your email to me.

3:36

Your wife's email.

3:37

I'm happy to send you the certificate of completion of my civic duty.

3:42

Unfortunately, I was not selected this time.

3:46

I went there.

3:47

I watched some movies.

3:48

I was not selected.

3:49

But I will say I am summoned an uncommon amount of times to jury duty.

3:55

So down here we have three courts that could summon you.

3:58

We have federal court, criminal court, and civil court.

4:02

And I think it's because I changed my license.

4:05

I had to update it like two or three years ago.

4:07

I will get hit by multiple courts a year.

4:09

And I try to say I was already summoned

4:11

and like that was another one of the branches.

4:13

You still have to come and report.

4:15

So I will have to report like two to three times a year.

4:17

And I always report.

4:18

I always go online.

4:19

I fill out the paperwork.

4:20

I do a lot of stuff because I'm afraid that I'm going to be the one

4:23

that like a sheriff shows up to the house and like arrests you

4:26

for not fulfilling your civic duty.

4:28

So they always call me back.

4:30

I get hit up every year for almost three times a year.

4:35

Yeah, because I'll get each court hitting me up usually once a year.

4:39

So I have like a civil case and a criminal case or a federal case.

4:44

So it's wild.

4:45

I was selected one time to be on a jury.

4:49

Brutal.

4:50

I don't, while it's great to fulfill your civic duty,

4:52

I don't recommend it.

4:53

Like it was not a great case.

4:56

It was like very sketchy.

4:57

Then goes down and then the rest of your life are like,

5:00

did we do the right thing?

5:01

Did we not do the right thing?

5:02

So like not great.

5:04

So that's when you kind of start.

5:05

I don't do like the excuses when they do the questioning

5:08

to get out, but I will sometimes be a little sassy on some responses.

5:13

Just to put enough doubt into like the lawyer's heads where they don't like.

5:17

So like,

5:18

for example,

5:19

okay, an example of a sassy Billy response to that was my wife's only point.

5:24

Billy just to clear clear the record.

5:26

She thought, you know, you're big fan of Billy Gill, but you know what?

5:29

Some of his responses, maybe his mannerisms, maybe that might some lawyers might be like,

5:34

let's just go in a different direction.

5:36

That's all she was saying.

5:37

So I did that.

5:39

I practiced this time.

5:40

I had one in mind for what it was going to be that I was going to do

5:43

if we got that far, but we didn't.

5:44

But I learned this on the last one,

5:46

which is kind of just ask a lot of questions that caused out within the lawyer.

5:51

So what happened on the last one was when I was being questioned,

5:55

the judge made it a point to tell us one of the sides,

5:58

the defense or the other side, whatever,

6:01

is going to have a character witness.

6:03

So the way a character witness works is

6:06

this is not someone who actually witnessed the crime.

6:08

This is an expert who's being brought in by one of the sides

6:12

and they may or may not be being compensated for their testimony

6:15

as character witnesses in this trial.

6:18

So like does anyone have any questions?

6:19

So I raised my hand because this was a long day.

6:22

Aren't we having an expert witness, not a character witness?

6:25

Yeah, an expert witness.

6:26

That's that's the one Tom.

6:27

So this is what happened.

6:29

This was this was like a jury of like over a hundred people

6:32

and they had already whittled it down like two or three times.

6:35

So we're down to like the last third of people.

6:38

So it's getting likely that I get selected.

6:40

So I'm like, I'm going to have to speak up or they may just like

6:43

pick my my quiet nature and just put me on the jury.

6:46

So like this is a expert witness.

6:48

You said, right Tom?

6:49

Yeah, expert witness.

6:50

So I raised my hand and I say,

6:52

so the expert witness might be getting paid, correct?

6:56

And like, yes, they, you know, were likely getting paid.

6:58

And I said, well, if they were not actual witnesses

7:01

and they are being paid for their testimony,

7:04

wouldn't they just be selecting people

7:07

that are going to say what they want to be said as experts?

7:10

And you know, an entire field of doctors,

7:12

would they not select the doctor who's going to have

7:15

view that's favorable to their client

7:17

and not one who's being unbiased in this situation?

7:20

And I saw that the lawyer for the opposition like perk up

7:25

and like, do a little smirk and take down notes.

7:27

And I was like, I either just got myself selected

7:30

or I cause enough doubt in this situation

7:33

that they're like, we are removing this guy

7:35

from the equation entirely.

7:36

Because once I asked that, the judge was like,

7:38

well, theoretically, yes, but you know,

7:39

it's not necessarily like that.

7:41

And I just remind the jury pool to remain unbiased

7:44

and all of a sudden, I'm like, I think,

7:46

I think I did enough here.

7:47

So you said it in front of all the other perspectives.

7:50

Oh, yeah.

7:50

Poison the whole pool.

7:52

Well, no, I informed the pool that this person is just an expert.

7:55

They're not necessarily a witness.

7:56

Because when you throw the witness on there,

7:58

you assume they saw this situation happen.

8:01

So there's a gray area there.

8:02

I was trying to clarify for myself

8:05

and also potentially the rest of the jury pool.

8:08

Now, I do feel bad for the jurors that go out

8:11

that they're like, I really want to serve.

8:13

Because there's like the young people

8:14

that call for the first time, they're like,

8:15

I really want to serve.

8:16

And you see them and then the judge will ask me questions.

8:18

Like, do you think you could be unbiased?

8:20

Like, no, and it's like, but I really want to serve.

8:22

It's like, buddy, you're saying the wrong things here.

8:24

You're never going to serve on a jury.

8:26

If you're telling them you're going to be on,

8:27

you can't be unbiased.

8:28

So there's ways around it.

8:30

You don't need to just jump into saying crazy racist things

8:33

that you see the internet tell you to do.

8:35

Avoid that. That's insane behavior.

8:37

She'll, how many times you've been selected ever?

8:39

Full lifetime.

8:41

I've never been selected.

8:43

I've gone.

8:44

I've gotten the letter I show up.

8:45

How many times have you actually gotten picked?

8:48

I think, I mean, three times maybe in my life.

8:52

That's a good thing.

8:53

Billy, having been selected, like,

8:54

for having been called 50 different times.

8:57

Just some math.

8:59

It's a recent development.

9:00

I'm telling you, it's like the last three years.

9:03

And I always write them.

9:04

I'm like, I just got called.

9:06

This can't be right.

9:07

And they're like, no, that was, that was simple.

9:09

This is a different court.

9:10

You got to show up.

9:11

And I'm like, this is absurd.

9:13

Like, what if I just don't show up?

9:15

You're not going to come to my house.

9:16

What if I just, because it says here,

9:18

you need to sign in to acknowledge that you received this?

9:21

What if the mail carrier loses this paper?

9:24

Like, we went to Sweden for a work event.

9:25

I sent my daughter a postcard from Sweden.

9:27

It was like a free thing.

9:29

Just never arrived.

9:30

Got lost somewhere between Stockholm and Miami.

9:33

Just never got here.

9:34

What if that were to happen to this summit?

9:36

It never happens somehow.

9:37

Well, that's our show.

9:38

Thanks to tune in.

9:39

Everybody will be back on Monday.

9:43

Cowboys have one of these games.

9:45

We talked about earlier this year that I feel like it's a home game

9:49

against the heavy underdog.

9:50

And everyone assumes this is just going to be a win.

9:52

Check the box and move on.

9:54

And they're just flat.

9:55

It didn't look like that shield in the early going.

9:57

They go right down the field on the opening position for a touchdown.

10:01

But after that, both the offense being stagnant,

10:05

the defense continuing just to have these breakdowns where guys are wide open

10:09

or there's a receiver open in the flat.

10:11

And two linebackers are both pointing at him.

10:13

But neither is actually going to cover him.

10:15

I mean, that game had everything.

10:17

It had Jalen Daniels.

10:18

It had his mom devouring nachos for an uncomfortably long period.

10:23

On the show, Todd Bowles going for a fourth and goal that we can dig into

10:28

in some extent here.

10:29

But the bugs get their first windshield.

10:32

And the Cowboys take one of those losses that just has to confound all those people

10:36

who are on the train of this Cowboys team is going to be different.

10:40

I mean, you look at the Cowboys.

10:41

And I think if it's an offensive game like that, you can just be like,

10:44

all right, that happens throughout the course of a 17 game season.

10:48

They've been excellent offensively.

10:49

The issue is the same issue we've been talking about for two years now.

10:53

And we've been talking about since the start of the season is that their defense

10:56

stinks.

10:57

And I don't know that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

10:59

Now Joey Porter, Jr.

11:01

got showed up at the stadium, got ill, goes home.

11:04

He doesn't play.

11:05

That was another.

11:05

I mean, what?

11:06

Talk about a strange season.

11:08

He's having so far.

11:09

But is that going to save them?

11:10

I mean, they've had, I was looking at this earlier today.

11:13

They've now played 22 games since that Michael Parsons trade before last season.

11:17

In that 22 game stretch, they are the worst defense in the NFL.

11:21

The worst defense in the NFL.

11:23

And I know Parsons is injured right now.

11:25

And he wouldn't be helping them in a game like this.

11:27

But you know what?

11:28

I would feel better if I were a Cowboys fan.

11:30

I'm like, hey, we're going to get Michael Parsons back for the second half of the season.

11:33

Because they don't have that guy.

11:34

Joey Porter, Jr.

11:36

is not going to be that guy.

11:37

So I'm very curious whether Blaine goes there.

11:40

Is Christian Parker feeling the heat?

11:42

We'll talk about some other coaching situations today,

11:44

where they're already making some changes.

11:47

Offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator.

11:49

Do they say, let's just give it some time with Joey Porter, Jr.

11:53

and the new pieces.

11:54

But it just feels like deja vu with this Cowboys team,

11:56

where you like the offense.

11:58

You like some of the talent.

11:59

But the defense is so bad that I don't know that we necessarily need to take them seriously.

12:05

I feel like I'm not panicking as much as some people are within the Cowboys organization.

12:11

And I guess Cowboys employees in the tunnels that are, you know, screaming at Dak Prescott.

12:17

That he was embarrassing and then he turned around.

12:19

That was crazy.

12:20

It really was because if it was actually an employee,

12:23

that I think goes without saying is a fireable offense for that employee who's just frustrated there.

12:28

Apparently it was a driver.

12:30

So they've got places where like the rich and famous can like have their black cars driven

12:35

down to the bowels of the stadium.

12:37

Apparently the reporting on the scene was it was a driver saying that to Dak.

12:42

But to your point, Billy, that shows how off the rails the entire night was.

12:45

As I recounted several unique memorable things from the game.

12:49

And I didn't even mention Joey Porter and the garbage can full of his own vomit.

12:52

And the driver getting the side eye from Dak after telling him the performance was embarrassing.

12:58

Well, I mean, I felt like it was just a really bad series of unfortunate events in the third quarter.

13:04

That was the difference in this game, right?

13:06

So the Cowboys are leading it half time.

13:08

They're up 10-7.

13:09

Then you have Bucky Urban run for 72 yards right at the start of the third quarter.

13:14

That leads to a touchdown right after that.

13:16

Next drive, Bucky Nier's interception, they get the ball back.

13:19

Then it test Johnson huge reception, put some again right in range.

13:23

Then another Bucky Urban, then a Bucky Urban TD, then a fumble on the next kickoff.

13:28

They get the ball back again.

13:29

Then it seems like they're going to stop.

13:30

Then there's a huge third and 21 conversion that leads to another field goal.

13:34

And unfortunately, Dorod Bland was kind of in the center of most of these big play.

13:40

So he slipped and fell on the text Johnson 64 yard reception that leads to a touchdown.

13:45

He slipped and fell on the third and 21 conversion that leads to a field goal.

13:48

And then he has a gift of a pick six that's right in his hands that he ends up dropping

13:54

with like four minutes left in the game that would have given them the lead because they were

13:58

only, or I potentially tied the game because they were only down eight at the time.

14:00

So it was a bad game by him where he slipped and fell a couple times on game changing plays,

14:06

dropped an interception.

14:07

So I don't think it's full on panic time for them because they still in loss by eight.

14:13

They were driving there.

14:14

There was another interception that hit the receiver in the face mask and bounced straight

14:17

up in the air that effectively ended the game.

14:19

So while it wasn't a great performance, they were still in it, granted to an Oh and four

14:24

bucks team with a backup quarterback that had no business leading that game for so long.

14:28

There's going to be a lot of attention to place on Christian Parker, who is a bright young coach.

14:34

She's 34 years old, okay?

14:36

And anybody who thought he was going to step in ran a complicated system because he trained

14:41

under Vic Fangio and there's a lot of similar principles here.

14:43

And it was just going to be snap your fingers and we're going.

14:45

I think over looks how complicated schemes can be.

14:50

And when you're trying to figure out how the various pieces fit in, when there's

14:55

moving pieces seemingly every single week, including, hey, we got Joey Porter Jr.

15:00

now. He's going to play more this week.

15:01

Oh, wait, he got ill before the game and decided not to take the, you know,

15:05

where those flu pills are and try to puke it out and then get back out on the

15:08

field. He's going home. He's not going to be able to play like that creates a lot of things.

15:12

But it's just it's the fundamental things. I don't, listen, I'm not a scheme expert,

15:17

she'll you know more about it than I do.

15:20

But I would say when you're seeing guys wide open, when you're seeing multiple defenders again,

15:25

pointing at someone who's running wide open, that's not the scheme.

15:29

Nobody draws it up like, all right, as long as they don't see the wide open guy, this is perfect.

15:33

No, that's somebody didn't do their job or somebody had a misdessignment or they fell down

15:39

to Billy's point. So I'm not panicking at all on the Cowboys defense. I'm more so just looking

15:44

at that overall team. And again, they just seem to have these types of performances where like,

15:50

what happened to the offense to the whole middle of the game? Lucency B. Lam in the second half to

15:55

the quad didn't help. George Pickens ends up with like nine catches, but like Jake Ferguson has a ball,

16:00

you know, go right off his hands for a big interception late to Anseloni. There's times where, you

16:06

know, they ran the ball right down the field on the first drive. And then Javante Williams was

16:09

basically a non factor the rest of the way. It's all these different things. I think that combined

16:14

and as much as we looked at this as well, it's the O and four Buccaneers coming in and you know,

16:18

they're even going to show up. That's the talented football team that did not played well through

16:23

the first four weeks. And yes, they had a challenge with the quarterback. But the Dallas was, it was a

16:28

disappointing performance all around. I mean, it's a Thursday night national TV game shield. You

16:32

could hear a pin drop for a lot of that game. Yeah, I don't think I think you're right about the

16:38

expectations for the defense, but also I mean, you're facing a rookie quarterback making his second

16:43

start. It's just you can't be given up third and twenty ones after, you know, what you gave up a

16:47

couple of weeks ago to the Ravens at the end of that game. And then the final possession, you have a

16:52

chance actually a final chance, even after the Ferguson interception play to get a stop and get

16:58

the ball back and you're giving you can't stop the run. You know, they're going to run it three times

17:02

in a row and you can't stop it. So there's kind of a lot of alarm bells with that defense where maybe

17:07

it gets better. But again, I think when you reach this point in the season, five games in, you have

17:13

some worries. On the other side of the ball, the Bucks, you know, I thought the story for like three to

17:16

half quarters was that Todd Bowles veteran coach respected by, you know, so many people in the NFL,

17:22

I was like, Oh, he's got his fastball back because they are making that press got looked bad. They

17:27

are pressuring him. Their defensive backs are playing well. I was so ready to make this a Todd

17:32

Bowles celebration. And then just one of the most fastening decisions by any coach this season. I

17:39

think and I am a pro analytics guy, but analytics doesn't mean you always go. And the fact that

17:46

Bowles is always so conservative. He's always wants to kick once to punt. And then the one time

17:52

where it's like, no, you actually should kick make this a three possession game. There's only seven

17:56

minutes left. The Cowboys aren't going to get the ball back. He decides to go for it. And that

18:00

almost lets the Cowboys back in the game. That was tough. Todd Bowles. I like the game plan. I

18:05

like the defense, but that decision. I thought was shocking. And let's let's set the scene for this.

18:09

For anybody who didn't see it or is trying to remember exactly what what the situation was.

18:14

There's about nine minutes left. It's not about 836 of the fourth quarter. They're up 14 points.

18:21

It is fourth and goal from the one. It's not the one in line. It's a legit. You got to get some

18:27

yardage here. And it's not a sneak. They're far enough away that they're handing the ball off.

18:31

On a shantucker was moving the pile all night. But it's the difference between you kick the field

18:36

goal there and you go up 17. Or your best case scenario is you're still up three scores going up

18:42

by 21 versus if you miss it, it's still a two score game. And sure enough, the Cowboys go right

18:47

down the field 99 yards. I did belly. Consult with a couple of the game management people for other

18:52

teams because every team what they do is they watch these situations, whatever comes up in games,

18:57

then they talk it out. Hey, how would we have handled that? What are charts say? And I'll give

19:02

the short version of it, which is the charts would say fourth and goal from the one, especially if

19:07

it's a shorter one. This one's kind of in a little bit of a gray area. But it's a clear go

19:12

in if it's the second quarter. It's a clear go just in a normal situation in the game. But the

19:18

way that the math works on the analytic side and this is where gut and instinct does come into it

19:23

is your counting possessions. What are the odds? The Cowboys who at that point had one touchdown

19:29

possession in the game were going to come up with three to beat you in the final 836. That's where

19:35

and bulls actually addressed it a few minutes ago saying I got greedy and went for it. That was

19:41

definitely on me. That's one that I know everyone's like analytics are run a mock and you can certainly

19:46

debate, you know, the Cowboys Billy going for two on the ensuing possession. But this was not

19:50

the analytics. This if anything is Todd probably going against what the numbers people would say

19:56

right. The time left in the game they get stuffed and I don't think he or any of the other teams

20:02

that saw that happen last night are going to have that happen for quite a while. Yeah, I'm glad

20:06

that he said that because my thinking when it was going on is Todd's feeling himself right now.

20:10

Like he's in a position that no one expected him to be in. Right now he's up 14 points against the

20:16

Cowboys. He's looking to make this a 21 point lead and really make a statement because I know we've

20:22

talked about it. There is some pressure on him. He is listed as one of the guys who's on the hot

20:28

seat and they've gotten off to this rough start. He's lost his starting quarterback, you know, for

20:33

however many weeks it is that Baker's going to be out. He's now a franchise quarterback with the deal

20:37

that they gave him. So it is kind of tough sledding ahead for the buck. So if they have this opportunity

20:42

to almost embarrass the Cowboys on national TV on Thursday night football and go up by 21, I think

20:49

that's probably along the lines of what he was thinking is let's make a statement here, right? And

20:53

then kind of get some of the heat off of me. But then it backfires and it's like, oh, I'm Todd

20:58

but we're you thinking exactly there. So it backfired in that sense on him.

21:02

I would just and you know, if I were him, if I were some of these other coaches, I said this

21:08

about Nick Sireani, just get the person in place that you trust in the booth in your ear and

21:14

just follow what they say every time. I think the gut instincts just, it's not going to be a good

21:20

process. You're going to get things wrong. These models that they use are so intricate. People

21:26

are like, well, they don't take into account the score or the time or the opponent. It's like,

21:31

no, they actually take into account all those things. These are these franchises they're

21:36

investing a lot of money in their analytics departments. I just think that would be the right way

21:40

to go because you're handling a lot of different things and you're right. You might have looked at it

21:44

and said, we've been running the football all game long. I want to show my team that I have confidence

21:48

in them. Let's go for it. Let's punch them in the mouth. And it's like, it did almost cost you the

21:53

game. If that ball doesn't hit off of Jake Ferguson's helmet, who knows that's all we're talking

21:57

about today is Todd bowls. What were you thinking in that instant? So if I were a coach, if I were

22:02

running an organization, I might have it as a mandate for the coach. Like, listen, we are going

22:07

to hire someone who you trust. They're going to have the information. They're going to be working

22:11

on this all week long to Tom's point. They're going to be watching all the other situations around

22:16

the NFL. This is going to be their job. Just trust them. It's going to lead to us making better

22:20

decisions than if you're just like, I'm kind of feeling it here. So I don't know. That's where I stand

22:25

with it. If the Bucks had lost that game in that fashion, they would have been 0 and 5 for the season.

22:32

They would have lost 12 to their last 14 games dating to last year's five. I don't think Todd

22:39

bowls gets fired today anyway. The glazes have owned the team for three decades. They've never

22:43

fired a head coach in season. The Bucks still haven't even played a division game, a division in

22:49

which, depending how this weekend goes, they could be one game back of the division lead when they

22:53

come back from their minibye. But it would have been loud today to lose that game in that fashion.

23:00

And you can trace all of it back to a head coaching decision. I don't want to say Todd bowls got

23:04

lucky because he called a great game defensively. I thought Zach Robinson, that's by far the best

23:09

game that he's called definitely in Tampa, maybe in his entire career going back to Atlanta with a

23:14

young quarterback. He played to his strengths. He covered up Jalen Daniels weaknesses, allowed him

23:18

to use his legs, got him some easy throws. I was really impressed with Jalen Daniels, but if that

23:23

game gets away from you can only imagine the conversations we'd be having on this show. Conversation

23:28

similar to the ones that we've had on and off about the Broncos and what's happening to them,

23:34

offensively, the season a little bit the Texans and why the number one defense from a year ago

23:39

has not been the same. Both those head coaches make a change in the past 48 hours since we were last

23:45

on this show. Sean Peyton taken over the offensive play calling starting this week's

23:49

shield for the Broncos. Demiko Ryan's taking over the defensive play calling for the Texans.

23:55

The Houston situation, there's a tinge of irony because the guy who was the hero of last season

24:01

for saving your defense Matt Burke is now the guy that you're benching from play calling to save

24:06

this season. The Broncos one, it was the number one question I got asked from people within the

24:12

league shield. All off season was how long that can last? When Sean going to take over,

24:17

sure enough here we are four weeks into the season. I thought it would go longer. I really did

24:21

because of the organizational elements of this, but by the line when you have one of the best play

24:27

callers in modern NFL history and he's not calling plays and things aren't going well,

24:32

it's the simplest fix is just say, hey, we're going to study the shipper.

24:36

The funniest thing about the Peyton situation is we were all kind of making jokes about it.

24:41

When it happened all off season this summer, just like, hey, what's the over under for when

24:45

Sean Peyton takes back play calling duties because Sean Peyton is great at what he does.

24:50

He also has a huge ego and he also wants to win. It's like he's not going to sit back and be

24:55

patient if the team's not winning and he doesn't like what he's seeing offensively and being like,

24:59

okay, well, we're trying to develop a young coach. I mean, I just don't I don't think that that's how

25:03

Sean Peyton is wired here. And so it kind of played out how everyone was predicting in the summer.

25:08

You look at their offense. I was just digging into some of the numbers today and a couple of things

25:12

that stand out compared to last year. Certainly the offense is performing worse than it did last year.

25:18

One, the run game has not been, I think, what they expected or hasn't been as good as last year.

25:23

That's supposed to be a great offensive line, but they haven't figured out how to run the ball

25:28

efficiently. And then the big thing is throwing the football downfield. You know, I think even

25:31

early last year, you would watch Broncos games and Bonyx wasn't always connecting, but it felt like

25:36

there were always opportunities that were skimmed up called at the right time where they could hit

25:41

on an explosive play down field. And this year, it's been a lot of check downs. It's been a lot of

25:46

throws behind the line of scrimmage. It hasn't been enough explosive plays, enough shots down field.

25:51

So I think those are things to keep an eye on here with Bonyx. But yeah, not surprising.

25:57

Kind of funny. You know, he takes over. Is there about to take on this charger's team that

26:01

hasn't won a game? That's smart. That's smart coaching as well, Billy. You know, you know,

26:04

you know, I have a great timing. Yeah, I will write timing or like kind of, hey, here's an opportunity

26:10

to kind of really make myself look like I saw this problem by coming in and, you know,

26:14

praying on a weaker team here in the charger. It is funny that this played out the way that it did,

26:19

right? Because in the offseason, we talked about everyone's like kind of surprise that Sean gave

26:23

up the play calling duties and you're saying both of you are saying everyone's been joking like,

26:27

when's he going to take this back? And sure enough, it happens right when they're going to take on

26:31

an ohm for Chargers team when they've had a tough schedule. I mean, we've talked about us a couple

26:35

times. They played the chiefs, the jags, the Rams, the 49ers. I mean, they're two and two. They're

26:40

not terrible, but they're not what you'd expect. And to your point of the stats, you know, last year

26:45

their offense was top 10, top 15 and a lot of these categories and yards for game points for game.

26:50

And now, you know, the yards for game, they're 28th and passing yards, they're 20th. So they're

26:55

towards the bottom, 29th and rushing yard for games. We've talked about how, you know, JK Dobbins

27:00

hasn't lived up to what they thought he was going to be this season so far. So their artistic

27:04

appointments, the play calling because of the inexperience of web, I think someone or some of us would

27:10

think it's it's going to be on him, but they have been underperforming and they've been playing

27:13

against superior opponents so far. So this Chargers game seems like a get right game for them and

27:20

they'll kind of figure things out and then it'll look like, Oh, look, Sean made the right

27:23

decision when really timing wise, he made the most opportune decision, I think here potentially.

27:29

By the way, Dmitriko Ryan's takes over defensive play calling against the Titans. That's another

27:34

Owen 14. That one to me in fairness to everybody involved. It's one of those chains for the sake of

27:42

change. And I get it. You're Owen four. What buttons can you push in Houston? You're not going to

27:48

fire the offensive coordinate and Nick Kayleigh because the offense is pretty good. You're not going to

27:52

bench C. J. Stroud because Stroud's been playing pretty good. Dmitriko Ryan's is not going to fire

27:57

himself. He's not going to fire Matt Berk. There's a really smart coach. So all right, what chains can we

28:02

make? Well, how do we switch this up? Take over the play calling. You know, if they're listen, if they

28:06

stop one of those two minute drives, they'll lead three times and are over three on stopping two

28:12

minute drives. Maybe we're not in this spot for Houston, but you know, both these teams they're

28:16

looking for a spark. It's getting late really early in some places, including for the chargers,

28:24

including for teams like the Broncos that think that they should be better, the Texans that certainly

28:29

think they should be better with the Bucks. Who knows, you know, what they might do on the minibye,

28:34

but there would have been a lot of pressure on for Todd, assuming that he was there to what can I

28:38

change up? We're going to get Baker back at some point, but how are we going to navigate this?

28:43

A lot of different, you know, moving parts, but we are getting to that portion of the season, man.

28:48

The trade deadline is one month from tomorrow, as we record this. So this is where teams are

28:53

figuring out, okay, are we the ascending team that's going to buy or we the descending team that's

28:57

going to sell? Are we one of those teams that's right in the middle where we kind of just got

29:01

to decide for ourselves because we don't know. Are we good enough to one move is even going to make

29:05

a difference? Are we bad enough that we should just go, you know what? Let's trade a guy,

29:09

we can get a pick and turn the attention in the next season. That's why these things happen at

29:14

this time of year. That's sometimes why coaches and coordinators. We haven't had a firing yet,

29:18

but we've essentially had a demotion for a couple of guys this week. It's all part of figuring out

29:23

what is your team? Can we fix it internally? If not, we either try to fix it with some external moves

29:29

or we say it's not fixable right now. Let's make sure that we're making moves that are going to

29:34

help us fix this thing in the big picture as we go into 2027 and beyond. We got some really

29:40

big games coming up this weekend. We got our main characters for week five Sunday coming up right

29:46

after this week five Sunday right around the corner some massive games division games and we've

29:54

got our main characters. The guys, the people, the players, the coaches, everyone involved. I think

30:00

Billy picked the Raiders fans last week. We've got a loose definition of this and that was not your

30:06

best, Billy. What do you mean? No, that's no, that hold on a second. That was an important thing.

30:12

We were kind of talking about the fan base and who had had home field advantage and then what

30:16

ended up happening was kind of what we discussed, which was I was consulting second hands, ticket

30:22

sale markets and what area codes they were selling tickets to when we thought that the Raiders

30:26

were going to have a substantial fan base advantage because a lot of it was local,

30:30

Las Vegas, you know, zip codes and such. But those ended up being just chiefs fans that lived in

30:36

the area apparently because it was definitely not a favorable crowd for the Raiders there. And I

30:42

would say if you see the outcome, some might argue that the fans did play their part in the outcome

30:47

of that game. So I will not take the L on that one. My main characters now, Owen three. It was not

30:53

bad for CJ Stroud last week as it had been the previous couple of weeks for for Aaron Glenn

30:59

among others. This is one my main character for week five. It's somebody I think that

31:06

everybody's going to sit down very early on Sunday morning to watch this game. We'll go into

31:10

a thinking it doesn't matter what he does. The Eagles have no chance against the Jaguars in London.

31:17

They are depending where you look seven and a half to eight point underdogs, which

31:22

feel you might know when is the last time the Eagles were seven and a half or eight point underdogs

31:26

in any game anywhere in the world. It's the biggest underdog line for them since Nick Sireoni

31:34

took over his head coach and Jalen Hertz took over his court. There hasn't been a game like this

31:38

to answer your question. So my main character is Jalen Hertz. And here's why. Everything around him

31:44

right now, especially offensively, is basically on fire. He's going to go into London without his

31:51

top two running backs, including Sequan Barkley. Thanks big bees. It's also out. It seems like no

31:56

Devante Smith. There's no David on TV on Wicks. You're right tackle retired right before the game

32:02

last week. You just traded your two time Pro Bowl Center who wasn't playing very well at guard.

32:06

But you got all these moving parts in front of you. The only thing that is like steady in all this,

32:12

now it's got her. It's been sideline as well. Like they're everything has been a mess right now.

32:16

The one guy who we know is going to be out there is Jalen Hertz. And Jalen Hertz, we talked about

32:20

this shield on the pod the other day, has not played bad under the circumstances with all these

32:26

things happening. All the injuries, new scheme that's not really on paper, a fit for him. He's played

32:31

okay football seven touchdown passes three interceptions has not been as much of a threat running

32:36

the football. He's only got one rushing touchdown this season. But this is a game where if they're

32:41

going to have a chance against the Jaguars team that people are essentially in 19 now is maybe the

32:46

AFC favorites. This has to just be a total Jalen Hertz bleep you game. It has to be him not playing

32:53

outside the system, not playing hero ball, but just going I need to come out and play the best game

32:59

of my entire life. Everyone is writing off the Eagles. I think even more than they normally do in

33:04

Philadelphia after a loss because of all these things that are happening and are they going to tank?

33:08

I mean, I got people calling me going, are they really trading in safe one? And I'm like, what

33:11

what corner of the Internet are you in? No, not right now, but there's certainly a lot of questions

33:17

about exactly what the future holds here in the near term for the Philadelphia Eagles.

33:21

If Jalen Hertz can come out and set a huge audience for those early morning Sunday games, but if

33:26

you can come out before a bunch of people and play well against the Jaguars and somehow find a way

33:31

to get a win. A, we're right back to the Eagles of the favorite in the NFC's. B,

33:37

maybe calm some of these things down. We're okay. Now we can get back safe one. We can get back

33:43

Devonte. We can get a little bit healthier. We can figure out the offensive line that any time

33:48

you're changing scheme, there's going to be guys who aren't who aren't in the right place.

33:52

Like there's going to be some guys that's like, hey, he was a great fit for the old scheme.

33:55

Not for what we're doing now. In other words, the only hope shield that the Eagles have here.

34:01

Is Jalen Hertz has to take over? Yes, it would help us to defense show it up. That would also be great

34:05

and keep this a close game. But Jalen Hertz has to have a really memorable performance

34:10

on an international stage. And I'm going to be watching him to see a guy who is that much of a

34:15

competitor. We all know that about Jalen. How hard he works, how much he cares. Let's see

34:20

when he comes with on Sunday. It's, yeah. So whatever it takes game, it doesn't matter what the

34:25

passing numbers are, what the rushing numbers are. It's like, you have to be the reason why your

34:30

team is going to win this game or keep it competitive. And if you zoom out, I think that's been the

34:34

conversation around this organization for four or five years now. They've gotten to the playoffs,

34:39

five years in a row. They've gotten to the Super Bowl twice. They've won a Super Bowl.

34:43

Yet there's always this conversation. How much of it is because of Jalen Hertz?

34:48

How much of it is because of everything else, even with Nick Saryani. It's the same question.

34:52

Is he, are we sure he's a good coach or is it a great situation compared to what other coaches

34:58

are in? And you know, part of those conversations have absolutely been fair. They've had a loaded

35:01

roster. They have a great GM. They've had a great defensive coordinator in Vic Fange. There's been a

35:06

lot of pieces in place that puts the quarterback in the coach in a good situation. And now everything's

35:12

flipped. That's the story of the first four weeks here. It's not a great situation. Time just went

35:16

over. I mean, they could be down five or six starters offensively in this game after an offseason

35:21

in which you traded AJ Brown after an offseason in which you got rid of your offensive line coach

35:26

who had been a stalwart for the organization. So it's a much different situation for both the coach

35:31

and the quarterback. And we have to see, are they up for it? Or is this thing going to go south?

35:36

Because I don't know. The people who are calling you about say, Juan Barkley, I would be like, well,

35:39

wait a couple of weeks. Let's see. I mean, I think there's a lot of stuff in play for this organization

35:44

where things go south for the next two, three, four weeks. They actually could be looking to move on

35:49

from a lot of these veteran players and say, hey, let's reset this thing and look ahead or they

35:55

could come out in surprise. Like we saw the Bucks do on Thursday night, big underdogs, island game,

36:00

you win that game. Now all of a sudden, it's hey, they're first place potentially in the division

36:05

and they're going to be fine. The Eagles fans want the Eagles and Nick Sireani to fail. Like from a far,

36:12

I'm just kind of like, I watch it and it's like they want, they've wanted to fire him for a couple

36:18

years, but they haven't gotten the ample reason to fire him. It seemed like the year that they're going

36:23

to, then they go on a run, they make the playoffs and they, well, we can't do it now. I mean,

36:27

they've lost back to back games. The one against the Rams, they choked away, which was bad. And then,

36:32

you know, you had the game against the Bears, which was embarrassing, but there's still only a game out

36:37

in their division. And it's, it's a very win-able division. There's no need. I don't think to like

36:43

sound all of the alarms. You mentioned they're dealing with injuries. They've traded someone.

36:47

Someone abruptly retired in the middle of the season. So things aren't going well, but, you know,

36:53

they're still plenty of time to turn us around. You want to know what Nick Sireani's message was,

36:56

the guy is knowing that they're down to linemen this week. You know what he told us? He said,

37:01

lock arms and let's go. So Nick Sireani's not backing down. He's telling us. That's what we say before

37:06

every podcast. Yeah, I will think that's the answer. It's hard for us to lock arms just because we're

37:12

in different locations. We could like digitally like back in the co-edera like digital hugs and

37:16

locking arms. And such like we could do that if you wanted to. But guys, I'll remind you,

37:20

the Eagles are 2 and 0 in international games. Okay. And I know that this is something you just

37:24

made fun of me for, but I was looking up and they're expecting this to be a very favorable Eagles

37:30

crowd in London, which is a disgrace if you're Jacksonville. I mean, Jacksonville could not flirt with

37:34

a city more than they flirt with London than they do. And that's basically their second home. And

37:38

they still can't get like a hometown advantage in these games in London. You're going to have more

37:43

Eagles fans traveling to cheer on the Eagles than your Jaguars fans at this point. Well,

37:47

are you aware of the travel situation here not to go back to week one in Tom's Australia trip?

37:53

But the Eagles are flying on Friday arriving in London Thursday night. They left Thursday night

38:00

so they'll get there on Friday. Yeah, it's time changing all of them. It's a very short,

38:05

it's a short trip compared to the Jaguars and I think compared to some other teams. So it's not

38:11

the same as Australia, but it's a little bit different. I think there's some of that element of,

38:15

hey, let's make sure we come back right after the game and we're not jet lagged. Well, we come back

38:21

and all that. So I don't know something else to maybe these travel things have become like the

38:25

biggest story in the NFL. When is your flight leaving has become the biggest story with every

38:30

international game in the NFL this season? Let's we forget too, as I was recounting all the injuries.

38:34

Hollywood Brown also has been hurt for two weeks and still not practicing. So basically your top

38:38

through receivers, your top two running backs. Dallas got it's been practicing on a limited

38:42

basis, but he hasn't been playing recently. And then no lane Johnson obviously no cam jurgans,

38:47

no land in Dickerson. It's a lot. The injuries are a real a real part of the game. I know they're never

38:54

an excuse. But when you look at how they pile up for certain teams on one side of the ball or the

38:58

other, the Eagles are in for it. Let's see what Jalen Hertz has. Sheel, your main character Sunday

39:03

week fast. I am going to Seattle 49ers, Seahawks two of the best teams in the NFL. And I'm going with

39:11

Kyle Shanahan. I know we tell everybody talks about Kyle Shanahan a lot. He's been in our life

39:16

for a very long time. If you've been following the NFL last year, they got a week 18 game against the

39:22

Seahawks and then they have a playoff game against the Seahawks. And in those two games, they get

39:27

outscored 54 to 9 in those two games. Now they had injuries. They were banged up. The Seahawks

39:35

are a great team. We know all of that. But if you look at it just offensively for the 49ers,

39:40

those are like two of the worst games under Kyle Shanahan over the last five years. I mean, it was

39:46

like nothing we're used to seeing with the 49ers. And I know we had this conversation a couple

39:52

weeks ago where I was posing the question, if you just have Shanahan and Purdy, can you overcome

39:57

almost any other thing on offense with the way the quarterbacks playing and the way the coach is

40:02

coaching right now? That wasn't the case in those two games. But now they get another chance. You

40:06

get George Kittle, who's healthy. You've had the best offense in the NFL over the first four

40:12

weeks here. Mike McDonald gets a lot of praise as the best defensive coach in the NFL. I think this

40:18

is a nice sort of, I don't know if it's a measuring stick game or a pride game or whatever

40:22

for Kyle Shanahan. But it's like, no, I can still go up against that guy and I didn't have all my

40:26

guys last year. But this is going to be a different situation. And can you imagine if they go

40:32

five in oh with wins over the Rams, wins over the 49ers, wins over the Broncos. And is this the year

40:39

where we've waited so long, Shanahan has just been knocking, knocking at the door. He can't

40:44

just knock it down and say, I've got the Super Bowl. What if this year with the Rams coming in

40:48

with all this hype with the Seahawks as defending champs? What if this ends up being the 49ers year?

40:54

I think that's potentially what we're talking about if they beat the Seahawks in Seattle and go

40:58

five in oh this season. Is this their first actual, you think, measuring stick game for both of

41:04

these teams? Because like you look at the schedule. So the Seahawks, they play the Patriots and we've

41:08

seen how like offensively struggling the Patriots were early in the season. So they got the Patriots

41:13

early. That was a win we thought, oh, this is a Super Bowl matchup. It ended up being like not the

41:17

most exciting game. And that's when they were struggling. Then you had the Cardinals, which we

41:20

thought, oh, the Cardinals are a good team after week one. And we realized like, oh, there's still kind

41:23

of the Cardinals. The commanders game, they lose the commanders game, but they outs, they got more

41:29

yards outgain them for 37 to 258. So like that was a pretty one sided affair that ended up with the

41:35

score being closer and they lose the game 33 31 that they should have won that game. And then the

41:40

chargers have been a struggling team. They win that game. And then on the flip side 49ers beat the

41:45

Rams, but there was the travel stuff there. I think we all still think that the Rams were a good

41:48

team. Then they played the dolphins Cardinals and the Broncos who just made a change at play calling.

41:53

So not that they've had easy schedules. They've been playing playoff teams, both of them, right?

41:57

But this is one where you'll see a team that's three and one against a team that's four and no,

42:01

where you're really going to see a good divisional game to kind of figure out where each team is

42:06

against quality opponent, right? The story of the 49ers season to me to this point.

42:13

And yes, the quality of the opponent is definitely always part of it. That's the good Rams team

42:18

and the adjustments Kyle made in the second half to me. That's what turned it more than the

42:22

the travel or how are the Rams feeling. It was just the things that he does and the way that he

42:26

creates mismatches is better than just about anybody in the entire league. They have injuries every year.

42:32

Like we talk about that storyline all the time and you can go right down the offense with all the

42:36

skill guys, pierce all being out for the season. Then the rookie gets hurt, scribbling in the opening

42:42

game. Tonjes is out for the season. All those things are true. What he has though are the Kyle

42:48

guys are healthy. It's Debo, Kittle, both guys who have turned back the clock at least in the early

42:55

portion of the season. It's Christian McCaffrey and it's Brock Perty. I'm a believer if Kyle has

43:01

those four guys, he can figure out the rest. Yes, it's more complicated when you don't have all

43:06

those ancillary pieces. Use check is also a Kyle guy. He's banged up. My miss. It sounds like a

43:11

little bit of time here, but those core four dudes on offense. That's what it all runs through.

43:18

That's where the entire foundation of that offense comes from. Well, those guys stay healthy for

43:23

17 games. History would tell you probably not. I mean, they've all had various injuries

43:28

through the years that have sideline them. Not as much Debo. Debo has been more just kind of like

43:32

the play going up and down and he's probably a little heavier in his later years than the 49ers

43:37

and got banged around a little bit, but he looks great. Kittle looks great. McCaffrey's been okay

43:42

to this point, but like you know the big McCaffrey games are coming. Then Perty's playing an MVP

43:46

level. I think that the 49ers are a dangerous team. You know how good they're going to be

43:51

defensively. You also have face and team that's got some familiarity this week, not just because

43:55

Mike McDonald has gone against Kyle Shanahan a number of times now, but also C.O.X. offense

44:01

coordinator Brian Flurry trained under Kyle Shanahan. So you've got to think Kyle is huddling with

44:07

Raheem and going through all the things he thinks and all the tells he might be finding on tape.

44:12

I think that's a really interesting subplot to this game. Kyle's one of the best coaches in the NFL.

44:18

We all know the one thing that he doesn't have right now. They're 4-0 and they're playing great

44:23

and it's not a fluke. Let's see what they do with a really challenging game this week. Billy,

44:27

your main character, week five Sunday in the NFL. My week five main character is Lions defensive

44:35

coordinator, Calvin Shepherd. Now this isn't the sexiest game by any means. It's the Lions and

44:41

the Cardinals. The Lions are favored by five and a half points. I would take whatever the

44:46

overs are on everything on yards, on points, on everything because this seems like a game where

44:51

the Cardinals are going to kind of put up some big numbers against the defense. But the reason he's

44:55

a main character is because he caught a couple people by surprise this week in the midweek press conference

45:02

is where they were asking decent questions. The Lions defense has been very disappointing to say

45:07

the least. They rank at the bottom of the league and almost everything defensively except

45:12

yards rushed against. They're like middle-up back there. But yards in the air, they're

45:16

less than league points for game yards again. All of that there at the bottom. So they were asking

45:22

him schematically. These are the reporters. They were asking him about the risk reward when it comes

45:26

to blitzing and what they can do schematically to kind of change things and make things more effective

45:32

against them. And he just very bluntly said, those were the right calls. And then he said that two or

45:37

three more times those were the right calls. And then obviously that beg to follow up, which was

45:41

well Bryce went eight for nine against the blitz. Like is there a disconnect between the calls

45:46

and the execution? Like what's going on there to which he said those are private conversations that

45:51

we have in house. But those were the right calls. So that was one exchange, which was not the best

45:56

where he's saying I'm making all the right calls. It's just not going the right way. So they ask

46:01

him more questions about if he still believes in the plan that they're doing because clearly things

46:06

are not working defensively here. And then he went on to tell us that he did not care about the

46:11

perception of his defense that the criticism is poison. But also the praise is the big poison

46:18

and that it all comes in waves of poison. So both criticism is poison, praise is poison. And these

46:23

are just waves going back and forth of poison. And then he made sure to say like there's three phases

46:29

to this team and it's disrespectful. The idea that other phases of these three units offense

46:35

defense, especially teams are carrying him that they're doing their one third. So

46:40

you know, Calvin Shempert hasn't exactly taken much accountability for the struggles of his

46:44

defense thus far. And with the trend that's gone on this week, he's lucky that Dan Campbell's

46:49

an offensive guy because he can't take over theoretically the play calling of the defense here. So

46:54

he's good on that front. But he's got to have a get back game at some point. The Cardinals might be

46:59

that team, but kind of wild week of press conferences and back and forth with the media for him.

47:05

I think everybody's feeling the prime. That's the kind of the theme of this podcast. Isn't it that

47:10

all these teams and coaches are this is when you start feeling the pressure. You get two weeks in.

47:14

Oh, it's early three weeks in. Listen, we won again. There's a long way to go. We're getting guys

47:18

back healthy. Now it feels like this four or five six. Once you get to this portion of the season,

47:24

people are starting to feel the heat. And they've got the worst defense in the NFL statistically.

47:29

I could give you 400 more statistics. It doesn't matter. They're 31st or 32nd. Like Billy said,

47:34

in pretty much every single category. And I watched this line's team and think, are they some

47:38

version of last year's Bengals or last year's Calbos where they're going to be great for fantasy.

47:43

The offense is going to be really good. But guess what? The defense is just so bad that we don't

47:48

need to take them seriously. And they're not going to win the 11 12 games, which I thought was in play

47:54

at the start of the season. So I think Shepherd's feeling the heat. It's not just the coaching. You know,

47:59

it's I always go back and forth with this because it's like, all right, they're not the most talented

48:02

defense. They have injuries. At the same time with all these guys, the coach's job is to figure it

48:07

out when the situation is less than ideal. That's what the money is for as the, you know, the old

48:12

Don Draper quote. It's like, that's why you're getting paid because you're not going to have the best

48:15

players every single week. And you're not seeing that with the Lions right now. So Campbell's made

48:20

changes before is definitely on my radar. You're right. He can't take over play calling duties. But

48:24

last year, he makes the change at offensive coordinator. If this thing starts to get even worse,

48:30

you know, if they were to lose a game against the Cardinals and get lit up for 400 yards and

48:34

over 30 points, I don't know that they're just going to stay the course and stick with it. So

48:39

this is another one of those situations, Tom, that I think we at least, you know, keep an eye on

48:44

when it comes to the coordinator stuff. The Lions have a buy after this week's game too. And usually

48:49

the buy is that time like you're going to make a really big change. That's when you do it. Dan

48:54

Campbell loves Kelvin Shepherd. He believes in him as a young coach. You remember the stuff from

49:00

Hardnox years ago when he was, Kelvin was telling the story about he said, I cut off my dreads and

49:04

Dan said, no, like that's who you are. There's a culture and Detroit of the former players.

49:11

And the way that they interact with players can be a little different. And when you're listening

49:15

to those Calvin Shepherd quotes, especially the like those were the right calls. I don't know that

49:20

a coordinator who didn't play could say that stuff and he would hit quite right. And clearly,

49:25

with a lot of people, it didn't hit quite right from Calvin Shepherd either. But like his message is

49:30

not to us. It's not to the media. He's messaging his players. And if that's what he is telling them

49:34

is like, these are the correct calls. We have to execute. I do think that it lands a little bit

49:40

differently. But the results are the results. It doesn't sound like Brian Branch will be back this week.

49:44

That's going to make a huge difference. It makes sense. He just started practicing. They got the

49:48

buys. They can buy him an extra couple of weeks. When he comes back, I do think that that makes an

49:52

impact. Maybe there's some things out there in the trademark at the bread. Holmes potentially can

49:56

get done to shore up the secondary. But that's been the biggest weakness when your

50:01

friends get an after people and you're not doing anything on the back end to support them.

50:05

Everybody involved gets frustrated. They've been really good. They really have on offense this

50:09

season. Drew Petson, another new offensive coordinator there. He's done a good job. The defense

50:14

is not good enough. The expectations are raised and Detroit is such a degree. The Dan Campbell

50:20

is willing to make those tough decisions to make sure that he is meeting them. So you go all the

50:24

way back to his first year. He pulled play calling duties from Anthony Lynn and took him over

50:29

himself. And that's when Ben Johnson kind of started sliding to the mix. Last year it was with John

50:34

Morton before Dan took over. You're right. He's not going to take over the defensive play calling

50:37

duties. But I could see him trying to punch some different buttons out in necessity. It's not

50:43

because Kevin Shepherd isn't a good coach or won't be a good coach in the future. But everything

50:47

they're doing right now, not good enough on defense. We'll see exactly what direction that goes

50:52

after this week's game. We say we got some picks to make. Specifically,

50:56

she'll has some picks to make. I need an update. I don't even know how we're doing after

51:01

last week. Let's do it right after this. Some sad news on this Friday as well. One of the

51:07

absolute legends, one of the most recognizable figures in NFL history. Mike did pass it away

51:15

at the age of 86. This one, she, especially as a child of the 80s, hits me in a certain type of

51:23

way because there's very few truly larger than life figures in the modern NFL. Like even the best

51:33

coaches are not the ones who are going to be able to sell you different things and have a media

51:39

career and be paraded on Saturday night live. Dithka was a Hall of Fame tight end first and foremost

51:44

and still have records on the books and then became one of the most successful coaches of his

51:50

era as well. You think of the iconography with it, you know, the Ricky Williams photo and the

51:55

wedding dress. He was associated with a lot of things during his career, but he was always on a

52:00

unapologetically Mike did. There's not another iron mic out there. There just a type going to be

52:08

since that, well, okay. And not another, not another Mike did. Type of figure. I mean, if you're

52:16

talking about the still people who dress up as Mike Dica, what are their coach, what are their

52:20

player? 40 years later, people going to games dressed as you. Like that's just, it's like, it's a

52:27

John Madden arguably John Groot and just because he did a million hooters and Corona ads, but like

52:32

there's very few guys who are kind of on that level. Dithka was in a class of his own,

52:36

yeah, it's funny. You mentioned Saturday night live. It's like you're, you know, I think if you're

52:40

of a certain age, that's where your mind goes instantly and then I'm thinking of the best and I'm

52:44

thinking of fans dressing up as him. Like you said, unbelievable run as a player and then that run

52:50

with the Bears man, you know, the Bears have had a lot of bad seasons since we've all been alive.

52:55

We're certainly since we've been working in football. They had an 11 year run with him where they

53:00

go 106 and 62 when, when over 63% of their games, of course, with the 85 bears, they get

53:07

referenced anytime you talk about a great defense. The 85 bears come up. They win the Super Bowl

53:12

that season as well. So yes, icon legend, just a guy who is a part of the culture of more so

53:20

than just a football coach. There's no doubt about it. Yeah, I mean, I think that's the thing for

53:24

like a younger generation too, right? Is that he crossed over into pop culture. Like you mentioned

53:28

Saturday and live, all the costumes everybody knows, you know, like the sweater, the bears, the

53:32

mustache, but you know, for like a younger group, he's in a movie with Will Ferrell kicking and

53:36

screaming where he's kind of, you know, he's playing the coach will for us a soccer coach and he's,

53:41

you know, the neighbor and he was able to kind of, he has the reputation of being a hard ass as a

53:46

coach and on the field, but then is able to kind of laugh at himself and play lighter versions of

53:50

himself or even parody himself even in movies like that and hip hop culture. So yeah, definitely a

53:56

sad day for everyone who, you know, doesn't just know him from the football fields.

54:00

And by the way, if you've never seen, if all you remember is Mike Dick in the sweaters and with the

54:04

big aviator sunglasses and being the coach, go back and find Mike Ditt highlights from his playing

54:13

career. Brock Bowers two years ago set the single season rookie tight end record for receiving yards.

54:20

He broke Ditt his record, which was a thousand seventy six yards 12 touchdowns at tight end

54:26

in 1961. Before the rest of the league was throwing the ball. That's how dominant Mike Ditt

54:33

was as a player, Parley, that same, you know, the mentality and that presence and to be in one of

54:38

the great coaches of his era. So rest in peace, Mike Ditt, a guy that I think all of us, you know,

54:44

has fond memories of over the years. Shio, we got rear 107 picks. What do we got?

54:49

All right, let's do it. Today's ringer 107 is brought to you by Fandall. Make this your most

54:54

rewarding season. Download the Fandall app to check out all of our 107 picks and boosted teaser

55:00

every week this season. All right. So we got back in the win column.

55:05

Last week three and two. That's three weeks where we've had a winning record. All right.

55:10

And one awful week that leaves us at nine and eleven. We're one game out of first place.

55:16

One bad week. Don't worry. Five in a week has come. I don't know.

55:20

This week. Go ahead, Billy. No, Billy. I try to put a positive spin on it. But go ahead.

55:26

We're one game out of first place, but we're also going one game out of last place because

55:29

everyone's either 10 and 10 9 and 11 or there's one team where he was eight and 12. It's very

55:34

bunched up right now. The field is wide open. I will give you that. This is where you need

55:38

a history lesson. You know, Tom just gave us the history lessons on didca last year.

55:44

Down and out. My records terrible. It's week 12, the week 10 people are making fun of me.

55:50

And then I just came back and kept pounding. And then we finished the season 56 and 51.

55:56

One game out of first place. Wow. So there you go. We're not going to think ourselves

56:00

that same hole this year, but we're just staying in it that we make our run around Thanksgiving.

56:04

It's just like the NFL. You know, we don't play our guys in the preseason.

56:07

So we get off to a little bit of a start. You're warming up. Yeah, we're figuring out

56:12

a personal goal. These are the right goals. That's what you're saying. She'll

56:16

these are the right calls. You know, we didn't execute, but these are the right calls.

56:19

All right, here we go. First pick. We're going to London and we're taking the Jaguars minus seven

56:26

and a half against the Eagles. Tom gave us all the injury news with the Eagles. I mean,

56:33

they're offensive liners and shambles. They don't have people to throw the football too.

56:37

If Jalen Hertz put the team on his back, or if the defense finally gets it going,

56:42

so be it. They can keep this game close. But I think the Jaguars have looked like one of the best

56:46

teams in the NFL for like a year and a quarter now. I think it could get ugly there in that football

56:52

game. Jaguars minus seven and a half. The first pick. All right, second pick here. We go to New England.

57:00

Everybody's so quick to say the Patriots have figured it out. And last week, all right,

57:06

now they're good. I'm not so sure about that. I like this Raiders team. We're taking the Raiders

57:11

plus three and a half at New England. I think these are pretty evenly matched teams right now.

57:17

And the Patriots have injuries in the secondary. I think the Raiders are going to figure out ways

57:22

to move the football. I'm trusting you Clint Kubiak. I'm trusting you Kirk Cousins. I'm trusting

57:28

you defense that is overachieved so far this season. I could see Max Crosby then going on Red Zone

57:33

Max Crosby strip sack on Drake May. Big turnover laid in the game Raiders. Maybe pull up the

57:41

upset, but at least keep it within three and a half. How are we feeling so far? Jaguars and Raiders.

57:46

Any thoughts from you guys? Bold pick on Raiders. Yeah. I'll give you that. But Kirk Cousins

57:50

playing at a high level. Yeah. It seems like I mean, the hurricane stuff that's not going to impact

57:54

any of the weather. We're not going to get rain in Foxboro because that would always worry me

57:58

is Kirk playing a bad weather game outside. As long as we avoid that, he's playing really well right now.

58:04

You know, I always forget to look at the weather stuff. Probably not great.

58:07

Yeah. I think it's probably should start looking at those. But you know what?

58:12

Next week, we'll start looking at the weather and we'll also get right where the games are being

58:16

placed. Keep going. All five. I'll find out what we got. You helped me out. Okay. Third pick.

58:20

We're going to Tennessee. The Houston Texans minus seven and a half at the Titans. This is a

58:27

get right spot for the Texans. Demiko Ryan's knows he's still in. He's looking at that offense with

58:32

cam board and Brian Debal and saying they can't do anything. I'm taking over play calling duties.

58:37

We're going to get after them the Titans scored 13 points in two games against Houston.

58:43

Last year, I know it's a different Texans defense. I still think it's a talented Texans defense.

58:48

They played some tough quarterbacks so far this season. I think they're going to force some turnovers.

58:53

They're going to create some pressure and CJ Stroud, Nico Collins. If those two guys are healthy

58:58

on offense, I think they can score enough. I think we're seeing a blowout in Tennessee.

59:03

The Texans get right against the Titans. That's pick number three. And then finally, the T's. This

59:10

is the fourth pick. A reminder, you pick two games. You can move the line six points either way.

59:16

We are going to Pittsburgh and we're taking the Colts plus eight and a half against the

59:22

Steelers. So the line is two and a half. We're bumping that up to eight and a half. Are the Steelers

59:27

really going to score enough to cover eight and a half points against the Indianapolis Colts? I

59:32

sure hope not. Maybe they will, but I sure hope not because I'm picking the Colts plus eight and a half

59:37

as one side of my T's. And then a really fun game that I can't wait for us. We didn't talk about it

59:43

in the preview, but man, our first show next week, we're going to be talking about Bill's Rams,

59:48

headliner on Monday night. We're teasing the bills up to nine and a half plus nine and a half.

59:54

There are three and a half point underdogs. We're moving that to nine and a half. If I get Josh

59:59

Allen plus nine and a half, I'm going to take it. If they get blown out, so be it, but those are the

1:00:05

two picks there for the T's. I got to get both of them right. Colts plus eight and a half

1:00:10

against the Steelers, bills plus nine and a half against the Rams. Plus three and a half is a

1:00:16

surprising line to me. You get three points at home, but there's still a half point up. I know

1:00:21

what the bills unit has been as good the last two weeks, but in the Rams, but for a furious rally,

1:00:26

having exactly been playing at their top of their game, either. Bill's mafia always travels well.

1:00:31

I imagine I have a decent contingent there. That's a surprising, a surprising line, but T's

1:00:36

and it forward to nine and a half. Yeah. It's an interesting call. By the way, 48% chance of rain

1:00:42

on Sunday and five. You really should have checked this. All right. Problematic. Listen. Yeah.

1:00:49

She'll glass half full. 52% chance. It won't rain. 52% chance. It won't rain. Drake may fumbles

1:00:55

the ball when there's blood on it. What's he going to do when there's rain on it? And guess what?

1:01:00

Clint Kubia, you know, a little screen to Brock Bowers. Never heard. Those are throws the

1:01:05

Kirk cousins can make. We're just going to pepper screens to Brock Bowers. Michael Mayor,

1:01:10

all game long. Still like it. This just increases the chances of Max Trust be forcing.

1:01:14

Go. So there you go. All right. Those are the picks. Here we go. Reviewing them real quick.

1:01:20

We've got the Jaguars minus seven and a half against the Eagles and London. We've got the Raiders

1:01:25

plus three and a half at New England. We've got the Texans minus seven and a half at Tennessee.

1:01:30

We are teasing the Colts up to plus eight and a half against the Steelers combined with the Rams.

1:01:36

I'm sorry. The bills plus nine and a half at the Rams. And then we will give you our last pick
